Prolab is good stuff, I've used it pretty much exclusively for about ~3 years now. You can get 5lb jugs of it from DPSnutrition or 1fast400 for about $22 per jug IIRC.

This is not a threadcrap, but rather to inform consumers. The average American diet already exceeds the necessary Dietary Reference intakes or Recommended Dietary Allownaces. The already excessive protein in our regular diets + the powder borders protein toxicity, which among dehydration may cause kidney damage as well. Just please remember that carbohydrates are just as important.

Of course if you know what you are doing and feel the need to supplement your nutrition with protein, I am not advocating that you not do so, I just wanted to make the average consumer aware that they already receive plenty of protein in their regular diets.

Thanks.

Yep, I love DPS nutrition, always cheap. I usually buy Prolab, Designer Whey, HSN, EAS, but right now I am trying BSN's new protein powder.

I understand where you are coming from, but recomended dietary allowances mean nothing to weightlifters or other persons engaged in training. Right now I take over 1000% of the daily recomended dose of vitamin C because I am a power lifter. Protein in large amounts is very important to lifters to get the gains wanted, for growth and recovery, and to maintain a stable nitrogen balance. Over-doing the protein (upwards of more than 3 times your body weight in protein can cause kidney damage as they have to filter all the excess, but currently the recomended dose for weight lifters is for every 1g of body wieght 1g of protein per day, either from food alone of food and supplemented with protein powder. There is a lot of reasons of why I can explain why protein powder is more "necessary" than hurtful, but mostly a lot of it envolves how most (serious mind you) weight lifters stick to a strict training diet anyway, so they need protein sources from other areas than their food.

Hope that helps you understand.

Wow I did not know that. I lift 30-45 minutes, 5 days a week. From what you said "...but currently the recomended dose for weight lifters is for every 1g of body wieght 1g of protein per day" I will have to reevaluate my diet now cause I was moderating my protein intake due to what I previously believed.
