sigh... I'm beginning to see why hot deals regarding religious materials were verboten. I tried really hard not to respond, honestly I did, but I must.
I'm well aware of the history of Israel. Furthermore, I'm a very strong supporter of Israel. I think the responsibility for almost all the violence and bloodshed in the region lies with Israel's Arab neighbors, who have invaded her without provocation on four separate occasions. They have nobody but themselves to blame for the loss of territory they've suffered as a result of losing those invasions.
I don't know the solution to the problems in the Middle East. I think it's quite plain that the Arabs do not accept the presence of Israel and have no desire for any peace that leaves Israel intact. I see no prospects for lasting peace until Arab mindsets change, which may be never, in which case the violence will persist until one side or the other (probably Israel) is destroyed.
But that doesn't mean I have to like the situation. Muslims (well, most Muslims) aren't evil or insane... their behavior is perfectly rational given their premise that Israel is intolerable. And maybe, just maybe, through greater understanding of what the Muslims believe and what makes them tick, we can find the key to change their minds and persuade them to accept the existence of Israel. It's a longshot admittedly, but it's pretty much the only shot we've got.
