<< Wow, there are some really ignorant people on this forum, I?m not a Muslim but it was pretty strange reading through all the posts....and the comment about knowing they enemy was really unnecessary >>
Perhaps not, beatitup. While not all Muslims are terrorists, we do need to understand Islam, and the corruptions of it by the terrorists, to understand "the enemy." For the same reason I keep myself informed of Xtianity and its texts, and the various corruptions of the same, to understand various hate groups and dangerous fundie types.
Of course, there are other reasons to read these works. But some just don't appreciate reading, and not much will help those types.
And I'll repeat again what I said on the "free bible" thread. Don't bother. If you want religious texts that will be actually useful for educational purposes, what is given away for free generally isn't any good. Head to a nearby campus (near the beginning of a term is best) and look for the texts being used in any sort of religion class. You'll get decent deals on very good texts: good translations, good annotation, etc. Don't just look at the Judeo-Christian-Muslim texts either. Break into some that are different. Try the bahgivad gita.
