A full length course is not the place to learn how to play.
Start by going to the range with some friends who play, then move on to par 3 courses. After you start making par on the holes at the par 3 course, then try out the executive courses, then you can move up to the real courses.
not sure on the club rentals...you might be better off finding you a used set at Play it Again Sports or a cheapo start set from Walmart, Target, Dick's or somewhere like that maybe 50 - 100 on used or 100 - 200 on new cheap set. Golf balls can be gotten pretty cheap at the same stores. If you are new to golf you wouldn't need the best golf balls. x-outs are usually cheap and do the trick. As for the green fees you will be saving about $41 bucks at Wildwood which is a really nice course IMO. I would recommend hitting the driving ranges before you try a real round though. Usually driving ranges have clubs you can use for free.
I want a free round of golf. I never knew how much you saved by playing golf for free until I had to start paying for my own rounds. I always played for free by working at a golf course, or playing at courses that my friends worked at. Golf (especially in this area) has gotten so expensive.
