Free Scamblocking Toolbar from Earthlink

In an attempt to curb the rise of identity theft, Earthlink has created a toolbar that will redirect you to their website?where a warning will be displayed?if you try to access a website on their list of known scammers. As a additional benefit, it also includes pop-up blocking capability as well as an integrated Google search.

Unfortunately, it's not specific about which browsers it supports. I know that it works fine with Internet Explorer but its support for other web browsers is unknown. If you want to learn a little more about the toolbar and how it came to fruition, read the "Phish This, You Scum" article.

The scammers are getting really good. Sure I know better, but I sure see how some little old lady could get sucked in. I am an earthlink customer and this week got the typical ?update your credit card? email. The address was ?earthlink-verified.com? I wasn?t about to give them any information, but as I browsed around all their links worked just as they would on the real earthlink site. I was impressed

Note the link now takes you to some "internet fraud complaint center" page.

Keep in mind that this software wasn't intended to replace any of the anti-spyware software such as those that you have mentioned. Its purpose is to protect the "little old lady" from the same exact kind of email message that Delbert received. As a matter of fact, Delbert, thanks for mentioning that site since it was a perfect test case for the Earthlink toolbar.

None of those protect you against identity theft or visiting a malicious website. Only spyware and stuff.

can anyone get the toolbar options or any other item from the menu to work, my IE keeps crashing when i try.

Well, the toolbar is up and running fine for me. Cool little utility, thanks! However, it does not work with mozilla/firefox which is a big negative for me.

also, wouldnt the google toolbar be pretty redundant with this installed? seems like this is a step ahead of the google toolbar.

Seems like it. I havent installed it, but it says;

OT: I guess since you guys like to use google for quick searches and stuff I might as well suggest an online bookmarking website that I personally use called myHQ. They host all your bookmarks online as well as provide a drop down box to do searches on 20+ search engines including google.
