Isn't it Ketel One?

I always drink Grey Goose, Stoli, or Finlandia. But after this thread, I'm planning to pick up some Tanqueray, Thor's Hammer, and Ciroc. Ciroc sounds like it would be especially good.

Woohoo! Mr Boston's all the way! Nothing like a handle for $9.97 in a cheap plastic bottle. Ahhhhh, the college life.

now, I haven't actually gotten around to trying grey goose or ciroc, but those are on my "list of stuff to try" =) Largely the grey goose I've been avoiding due to cost reasons...specifically that it's expensive as hell.

But, I have tried a variety of other brands, absolut, skyy(ugh), several varieties of stoli(ah, stoli), smirnoff, etc. and stoli is currently my voka of choice...Oranj is pretty good, and straight stoli is pretty damn good too.

It's far smoother than any other brand I've had so far, and actually russian to boot =P And the best part is that it's unbelievably cheap at the duty free shops...hmm I must go to canada again soon lol

Ciroc isn't cheap (I think I picked it up for $44) but it is absolutely the smoothest vodka I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. Too bad they don't have coupons or MIR...LOL.

Usually, but that's the thing that blew me away. My MIL did have it in the freezer when she brought it out and it was still rough to drink. The Shaker's that is.

And yes Dantzig, you're right, it is Ketel.

Doesn't everybody keep their vodka in the freezer? I mean, aside from those of you who live in Wisconsin in the wintertime who can just put it out on the stoop.

Same here -- that's all I buy.

My Dad is Stationed in Eastern Europe (Moldova, near Russia) through the Military. I get to go visit and the vodka over there is really good and cheap too.
I have discovered some really good vodka like stolichnia (not the kind we have here), Perfect (a russian brand thats about $1.50 for a fifth), and Roua Moldovei. They can all be had for under $4 a liter and are world class. Its a shame a decent bottle is so expensive here, its just distilled alchohol and water (seems to me). Aren't there some quality Vodkas at cheap prices, though its one of my fav liquors, it has to be one of the easiest alchohols to make and doesnt seem worth $30 a bottle to me.

Edit: Also, I am going back this xmas and planning on bringing a case of cognac / vodka back. If anyone is looking for top shelf eastern european liquor I may be able to help you out. Contact Jarrisw@hotmail.com

Jzero is 100% correct!!! "I still can't top Tanqueray when it comes to price/performance ratio. That stuff is good.
And before anyone bothers to question: Yes, TANQUERAY VODKA."

I've been drinking vodka for many years (18 to be precise) and I've tried many brands of vodka to include several made in Russia and Poland which are not exported to the U.S.

I can honestly say that Tanqueray SILVER vodka is 1 of the best I've ever tried (Finlandia also gets an honorable mention) and it's a REAL bargin (at least in Michigan where it's 1 of the cheapest "top shelf" vodkas available).

It's awesome in a REALLY shaken martini (hold the vermouth and heavy on the FINE LAYER of floating ice crystals!) with 3 EXTRA LARGE olives (get'em at Sam's Club 2 big jars for ~$5.50)!

Vodka, by definition, is odorless and tasteless. In practice however, some of the cheapo brands taste a little like gasoline. Through trial and error you can find one or two of the cheap brands that are as good as the overpriced stuff. It is not this way with other types of liquor, especially gin.

Ketel One is THE vodka, IMHO. I also like Finlandia as a less expensive option. I will have to try Thor's Hammer and some of the others after reading this thread. BTW, I never liked the taste of Grey Goose.

Love the Goose and Kettle One as well. Fris isn't too bad either. Never heard of this stuff though.

It is a crappy web page, but their vodka is pretty awesome. I never liked vodka till I had that. I found out about it through a guy at work that knows the owner blah blah blah...

Anyway, I tried it and I love it.

Laggerez: Sounds like we have similar tastes. Does you wife have a cute sister

Swoosh: Thanks for mentioning Fris. I had forgotten about it. I haven't had it in a few years, but as I recall it is a GREAT vodka for the price.

vodka used to be my fav, then i had to go and get sick on the stuff, and since then a shot makes me feel pretty bad, but to be fair since i've gotten sick all i've had is ketel one, and i know one of my other friends has a hard time drinking ketel one as well, i thought skyy was pretty good for the price, stoli is great, if I knew i could drink vodka again i'd like to try this stuff, wine enthusiast rated it above grey goose (96/100), http://www.internetwines.com/pa35034.html i think it used to be called stolichnaya cristall (which my dad still has a bottle of in the freezer, the first stuff i ever tried) http://www.cristall.com/portfolio.shtml

Are any of these (vodkas) made from potatoes, or are they all grain now? Any opinions?

I remember drinking Wisla vodka in my college days, but haven't seen it in the USA.

Stolichnaya all the way. That's the stuff we used to drink in Russia and it hasn't given me reason to change. Although I'm sure the stuff here isn't as good as what they have in Russia. I hear Kettle One is very good as well, have a bottle sitting in the fridge, haven't tried yet.
