there are still some made with potatoes but its my understanding is that using potatoes introduce many more impurities so it must go through extra filtering to remove them.

I've only seen one person mention it. Rain. Rain is THE vodka in my book. Keep it in the freezer, it is OOOOH so smooth going down. $20 for a fifth. Made in the US too. But it's better than Skye (my previous favorite), quite a bit better than Absolute.

I've tried the Goose and Finlandia and a few others. None were as smooth or as good as Rain to my taste.

If you're looking for vodka on the cheap, Burnett's is pretty darn good, and only about $7.50 for a fifth here. I would rate it just a hair short of Skye and pretty close to Absolut but at a much lower price. They also make some good citrus flavored vodka.

Wanna get loaded cheap? $12 handle of Aristocrat. Even cheaper? $10 handle of Vladimir. Vladdy is some awful stuff, but sometimes you just dont care what it tastes like.

I do prefer Belvedere over Grey Goose, though.

i can get 1 gallon of potter's vodka for $9 tastes oh so horrible too

Ive had quite a few vodkas in my day and heres my recommendations, and i will try a few from you guys too.

Ketel 1 is great but it does have a bit of a bite to it (but not that lighter fluid bite, more like a certain taste) its good BECAUSE of that.

Tanqueray is probably the smoothest glassiest nonexistent flavor you could hope for in a 20$ bottle.

Get Stoli plain vodka only, the flavors are just plain nasty and artifical (raspberry makes me gag just thinking about it.. blech) If you guys want real flavor, put in real berrys and soak em.. then your bottle is really tasty AND if you dry the berrys out theyll be clear and have a punch much like a jello shot.. tasty and great party favors.

Now the one vodka that hasnt been mentioned weve discovered very recently and its been in oregon stores for about 15$ in the middle rack (keep in mind the NW has the friggin highest price in the country so it might be cheaper in your area). Its called Monopolova or something along those veins. Its a white label with simple blue text from russia. Absolutley hands down the best 15$ bottle out there. Been our total go to since.
Has a bit of flavor and works well straight, drinks, and martinis.. gotta check it out

Phew..
ok one party trick my friend taught me: the martini shot: The best way to get the flavor of a vodka - what you do is you have a shot of vodka and an olive.
1. Take a big sniff of the olive
2. Exhale completely
3. Sip or take the shot
4. Still being exhaled, take another sniff of the olive
5. Eat the olive on the exhale.

It's truely remarkable how even the most gag inducing vodka will go down smooth, at the same time showing off all the colors and nuances of the vodka..

Chopin is a very smooth potatoe vodka, Belvedere is the grain vodka made by the same company, Chopin is better though IMHO.

Can you all shut the f*ck up about which vodka is best and talk about the deal? I just read through 2 pages of self-professed vodka connoisseurs bullshit trying to find out what the free gift is.

Some more college input - When you are mixing or already drunk you cant go wrong with Albertson's "premium vodka" at 8.99 a handle, but if you want to live the high life (unlike all you kennedy's with your grey goose and kettle one) smirnoff is the way to go. It is actually pretty smooth and at 15 a handle is much better than Popov and the other rot-gut

Though Trader Joes "Vodka of the Gods" sure has a cool label

No offense to kettle one or greygoose vodka drinker, but u all should try ZYR Vodka (I believe it's only available at NYC, NJ, Cali, and Florida), that thing is by far the best vodka i've ever tried. I'm a bartender, and so far all the people that i recommanded the Vodka to, switch to ZYR... thing is like the smooothest vokda ever, almost like drinking water. Try it... hehe.. On another note, what the hell is the free gift?

Yes there are potato vodkas... The Polish Luksusowa (luxsusowa) Luxury wodka is made of Potatoes.. I personally don't like it and also there is not sure if Potato but its got bison grass in it Zobrowka or Bison Wodka as its known here and I dont fancy it that much anymore any way My favorite is simply called Polska Wodka or Polish Vodka and its very very good and smooth and not expensive in Poland.. I have not seen it here... It usually gets put behind the Belvedere and Chopin big boys and even behind Finlandia and Maximus in Poalnd but its the best!

Fris is the worst vodka I've ever had. Maybe we got a bad bottle, but no on here could take shots of it....even Smirnoff is better. I'm a fan of Finlandia myself, and to a lesser degree Skyy.

I too received my pinguin pin late last week. It promptly was placed in File 13.

Oh well, can't win them all!
