I *highly* recommend everyone try shaving oil; and for free, now's the time!

I shave my head every other day, and I've tried everything. Creams, gels, electrics (foil and rotary), old-fashioned straight razors, etc. I get the closest, least irritating shaves with oil and a Schick DiamondFX blade (works better than the Mach3 for me). I use "King of Shaves" brand oil, and considering you only use a few drops per shave, it's not too expensive. What's nice is that the wetter your face, the better your shave.

And I have oily skin, doesn't matter (in fact, it may help!)

I have a big problem with razer burn and I also shave my head about every 3 days as well as having a very tough beard.

Today I just tried for the first time Neutrogena men razer defense shaving gel. Its expensive, about 3.99 a can but its the best I have used so far. No burn with it at all. I followed it up with some Nivea for men after shave balm (scentless) This seem to be a good combo for me.

Hopefully this oil will work even better.

King of Shaves is probably the best known here in the States. I tried their free sample about two-three years ago and I am hooked. You only pay 6 bucks for a one ounce bottle, but the bottle lasts about three-four months. You can pick it up at most Super Targets. Its really tiny and you have to look hard for it ,but their website should provide you with the ST's that carry it in your area. This stuff is way cool and works like magic especially if you use a Mach3 or Mach3 Turbo.

Gents, how exactly does shaving oil work, as opposed to shaving gel or cream?

Lube it up! I guess it works by filling in pores and "smoothing" the surface of the skin so the razor passes over it easily. Like I mentioned, I've never had a better shave.

I once read that Romans would "bathe" with olive oil; they would cover their bodies with it and shave it off... Really, olive oil is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin E and beta-carotene -- all great for your skin.

But shaving oil is better than olive oil. Thicker, easier to apply, and mentholated!
