Can anyone confirm Costco/Sams Club will install tires at their regular rates without you actually buying tires from them???

Getting harder to find 275 60 R15's that are rated for a decent speed. Thank God SUV's use the same size tires as my Camaro Oh, and as for the air hammer's, they can crack my aluminum mags, hand tighten all the way.

Costco will mount and balance tires. Although they will not warranty the tires. I had snow tires put on my rim just a few weeks ago

The reason for using a hand held torque wrench for the lug nuts is to prevent warping of the rotors and/or wheel seat. Too much torque or unequal torque distribution can warp the rotors pretty easily because most, if not all, vehicle lugs are threaded into the brake rotors.

<< I dunno... the free shipping is nice, but the price seemed higher for me compared to tirerack.com
one thing with tirerack is that it cost ~30 or so to ship, but when you order they arrive a day or two later!
>>

Same with tires.com,ive ordered from them before, they have warehouses a few places, just like tire rack.

One thing to avoid is the $30 per tire charge (4-5 months ago) for road hazard certificates at Tires.com. It is *now* changed to roughly $10 a tire, so a lot of people must have bitched about the $30 per tire charge.

I think it crazy to have to pay to ship a defective tire back to them:

"Note: Discount Tire Direct reserves the right to have damaged tires returned for inspection**. This will be at the owner's expense."

I ordered 4 tires from Tirerack.com and had them drop-shipped to a local place. For a total of $30, I got free rotation, full road hazard warranty on all 4 tires. Just an FYI.

I bought I set of Nitto Extreme 450's a while back from tire rack and the price even with shipping was good, I wanna say like $120 a piece. These tires are bossin on a set of TSW REVOS on an Mitsu Eclipse. can take 90 degree turns at like 35 (in your neighborhood) w/no squeel or sliding.
awesome!

So, you get cheap tires and spend another $8-$12 each to get them put on, valve stems and balanced. Not such a good deal after all (unless you have the skill and equipment to do this yourself).

You can go to Sam's and get these tires for within $10 of their prices, and get free installation, valve stems, balancing, plus road hazard insurance. Seems like less hassle to me.

I ended up buying thru tirerack.com. The tires were $10 cheaper each and shipping came to about $7 a piece. So the price was lower with the "free shipping" of tires.com. Also, my Sams Club will install other tires for $9 each, but I would have to lug them there. So I went with the drop shipment option to a local tire installer. I do miss out on the free roation deal of Sams, oh well.......

Don't want to crap on your thread, just want to let you know of a site I just ordered from on the west coast of canada. I did some searching and they still beat most sites even after including shipping... there were no other charges other than shipping... hope this helps... Larry

I always buy Michelin tires. You may pay a little more but they really last and I've never had a flat with them.

<< I think he said that because Air Guns can over torque the nuts if you aren't careful...therefore biting into your rims and being a pain to get off. I'm sure they have new air guns that they can set for the proper level now... >>

I had a problem with the tire shop always stripping the chrome off my lugnuts when using an air wrench. The next time I went in for a rotation I told the sales guy and he wrote "hand tighten" lugnuts on the work order. BIG MISTAKE! The idiot service guy literally hand tightened the lugnuts without a wrench and I almost had a serious accident when one of the wheels nearly came off at 70mph on the interstate. I went back and threatened to sue them. They had to cut the wheel off with a torch and replace the hub, wheel and tire. I always check my lugnuts after every rotation.

I take my torque wrench with me to the tire shop, always .. unless it is Discount Tires (tires.com), they always hand torque them.
If the shop uses an air gun to tighten your wheels without a torque stick, they will wrap your rotors, because they will exert uneven pressure on each lug nut, so your rotors are not straight anymore, you can tell that from 2 things, vibration at highway speeds and also your steeting wheel will shake when you hit the brakes, if this happens to you, I would highly recommend that you bitch about it and get them to replace your rotors.
The best thing is, to always hand torque them with a torque wrench to your manufacturer specs, 80 to 90 ft/lbs is usually good enough to passenger cars.

The michelins I just picked up for my car were $15/tire cheaper at Sam's Club... which was also cheaper than NTB...

What I'm trying to say is that if you need tires, you might wanna check Sam's out

If you are looking for 4x4 tires for lifted trucks or just plain large tires ( such as TSL's swampers, boggers, pro-comp ) then 4 Wheel parts Wholesalers has the same special going on. I just ordered a set of 33 x 11.50 r16's for my truck, and got 'em for $160 each including shippin'. That is smokin for those tires that weigh a good 80 lbs each

Not that hot....

4x 185/65HR14 Dunlop SP Sport A2
$244 shipped via UPS Ground at tires.com
$242.64 shipped via Fedex 2 day economy at tirerack.com

I bought the tires on my Accord from tire rack about a year ago. Came very fast, and Costco installed them all for $16 plus tax. Considering I ended up paying about $55 per tire installed, it saved me a bundle. Most shops were selling my tires for around $65 a piece plus all the mount/balance fees etc.

Anyway, they're giving free shipping, but they jacked up the prices to pretty much offset any savings. Pretty lame if you ask me!

I have ordered tires at both places and both of them have been great. Prices are generally close. They have saved me a fortune!
