The reason I do not like 4500S is the small case. You only have a bay for cd-rom. No room for the dvd or cd-rw. In addition, there are only two PCI slots. After the Modem and NIC card, you are locked there.

Why would you need both a Modem and a NIC? I don't know too many configurations where you would use both. Only thing I can think of if your sharing 56k modem over a network and well EWWWW.

Given it is a slimline system it is feature packed. I am considering jumping on this deal.

EDIT: I just realized that there is an integrated NIC. So even if you had a modem you would still have an open slot.

I would agree, you could easily save $50 by using your own FedEx account. All you need is a credit card and you can open your own FedEx account.

$45 FedEx shipping vs $95 UPS looks very appealing.

The 'main' thing I don't like is the Integrated Intel Extreme Video.

I took a look for benchmarks and have not found any yet. That could be the one major downfall with this setup, no AGP slot listed either. If anyone have any info. on the performance of this shared memory video please forward. It probably is pretty bad. Other than that, this deal looked really good...

I think this is the 845GL chipset, no AGP support or 533 MHz bus. It appears this is the on-board video, Not too bad for the price:

http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/motherboards/article.php/10703_1141511__8

Some Excerpts on the VideoL
Since the i845G integrated video isn't exactly going to set the 3D world on fire, the two most important components are 2D Windows image quality and basic 3D performance. On the 2D side, the i845G supplies excellent image quality up to 1024x768, but moving higher to 1280x1024 results in a noticeable loss in text quality, and 1600x1200 is virtually unbearable. The vast majority of users will likely be at 1024x768x32 and be quite happy, but don't go in with illusions of using the i845G as a high-end graphics solution for a 19" or 21" monitor.

Expectations of 3D gaming performance may have been muted by our benchmarking results, but actual real-world testing proved quite satisfactory. This is highly dependant on resolution, and Quake 3 at 1024x768 or Unreal Tournament and Return to Castle Wolfenstein at 800x600 actually play quite well. We spent a few hours actually playing 3D games on the i845G, and even ran through entire Assault selection in UT without missing a beat. The i845G could easily fit the bill as a second gaming/network box and with a fast P4, it can handle the current crop of 3D shooters at 800x600 or 1024x768. Although we could not test the entire spectrum of 3D games, we did not find any game or image compatibility problems in the selection we did load.

Dell is offering free shipping again in the Small Business section, making this $421 AR, plus tax. I'm torn between getting this system and the Dimension 8200 for $650 AR, plus tax. What would you guys get?

the 8200 is more expandable. if you're just surfing this one is better since its cheaper. for gaming the 4500S isn't even an option.

It doesn't matter, as long as you have a cc. So unless you have a legit business, I'd open a personal FedEx acct.

I don't see the extra 5% off, any clues where to find it? It think this deal is hot also. Decent AGP video, expandable, faster, more RAM, bigger HD, etc.
