More confirmation that the people with troubles are IP range issues (probably from trying to tell if its in USA or not). A guy on SD paid for $10 worth of skype out and dialed. He checked his call list in his account and he was getting charged for the calls.

This works with existing and new accounts.
You need the latest version of the software (version 2 from website or the 2.5 beta) for this to work.
Despite the message at bottom of screen on skype accounts with no credit about "you need to buy skypeout credit to call standard phone numbers" you DO NOT NEED TO! IGNORE THE MESSAGE.
Just type the number at bottom box, DON'T CLICK THE BUTTON AT TOP THAT SAYS CALL PHONES!! This doesn't work for the free calls!
Use +1xxxyyyzzzz format to dial (the beta doesn't need the +1 part)
It works to call alaska, and presumably hawaii.
If you need to dial numbers (like if you are calling voicemail or an 800 number or whatever) then goto the DIAL tab and just click away.

If you get a message about someone not accepting unidentifed calls, this is something thats normally setup with the phone company to prevent telemarketing. They will need to call the phone company to remove that, or else you are SOL in calling that number with skype. Generally getting your number on the national do not call list should take care of most telemarketers.

It's not working for me at all... I ignore the message saying that I need skypeout credit, but it refuses to go through with the call.

I am having the same problem. I have tried it a few times and get the same error.

A post on the skype forums:
It seems to not be working with people who have an ISP whose IP address begins in the 70-79.X.X.X range. Mine is 71.X.X.X and its not working for me either.
So, anyone who is having issues, check http://www.whatismyip.com and tell us if your IP is in that range (no need to tell us the actual IP if you dont want to).

Voicemail is also a nice touch, free with SkypeIn.

I use Skype on my PocketPC all the time, its a great CHEAP alternative to a cell phone.

That looks rather steep to a cheapass like me, when stanaphone offers free call-in number. For outgoing calls, you do need to pay. Since my house phone is mainly to receive calls not make outbound calls, stanaphone suits me better. I deposited $10 in the account early this year and havnt used half of it yet.

yep, the 800 number works fine... but a call to my cell phone for instance doesn't work.

The first two digits of my ip is 72. It used to be 67 a while back, but I had problems with my cable modem, and when it went back online, the ip was 72 something.

Statnaphone has a free call in Number??? I am trying to sign up for stana-in but it is asking for $$$$$..Am I missing something??

That would be great as I only need a call in number.

also ,

Will either one of these work with a voip router or something and a regular phone??

Thanks

Got a 71.X.X.X IP here and can't call regular numbers. 800 numbers go through fine.

Notified Skype Support. Hopefully they're working on a fix. Here's the submission page if you want to add.

I read ur faq, but it doesn't address my problem. Anyways, i just found out that certain ip ranges aren't able to make the free calls for some reason. Skype hasn't released a fix yet hopefully they will soon.

I got my free stana-in a while back, things might have changed by now. Not sure about the Voip router / regular phone combination, perhaps you could research that in stanaphone's own forums on their website. Sorry I am not being too helpful here

You mean you read this part under troubleshooting?
At the moment it looks like all IP's in the range of 70.xxx.xxx.xxx to 79.xxx.xxx.xxx (first number starts with 70 through 79) have issues (because skype thinks you are outside the USA).
Because that kinda sounds like what you are talking about. It sounds exactly like your problem

Mine was a problem also and I have a 12. address but I figured out that I wasn't doing the obvious of using the area code in front of the number. Without the area code it kept prompting me to pay. It was my fault but they should have a better feedback system for such a user error.

Yeah looks like they fixed the 7x IP range issue. If it still doesn't work for anyone let us know.

Maybe I am being a bit thick this morning, but I want to sign up my wife and son and don't see how to do that. Do they each need to download the application and signup directly?

Unless they like you picking out a username and pass for them.
Unless its all on one computer and you all dont mind sharing an account.
