Just figured it out, once you zoom in on an area it starts downloading those 3D maps from NASA servers. Sometimes it takes a while though. And I think the red box indicates are area that is having data downloaded?

Can't manage more than 15 k/s here...after clicking through all the mirrors and managing a connection to the next-to-last one...

Not that it matters...am downloading on a powerbook, so won't be able to try this out till i have it transferred to my windows machine, which isn't here yet

Is this thing a program by itself, or a database of some sort? For example, could i find the 3D vector files in it and render them for a Mac in Lightwave? Or is it completely self-contained, with no way to get at the libraries?

The program has its own format I believe for the data it streams from the NASA site.

the red box means its downloading. if you see the NASA symbol on the right side, it also means its downloading. they are having server problems, so its really really slow.

the database is around ~20 TB.. so you cant dl it =)

Anyone else getting corrupted zip files on download? IE downloads the whole 250 some megs, but then the file properties under XP show it as being way less, like 18 megs. IE perhaps? I've tried downloading it from multiple sources already.

Downloaded and installed. Very impressive software. The first time you zoom in an area it has to connect to the server to dl more data, and this takes time. But fantastic info. I was able to locate my house from the sat. photos!

Never heard of such thing. You could also start up a wsftp client and connect to one of the ftp mirrors

Oh boy...that big a database? Does that mean if i install this on a school computer, and the kids and teachers go nuts zooming on stuff, i'm going to need a 20 Tb array to handle all the data?

This could result in loads of extra tech-support for out-of-space hard drives, i think...
