So if you do use the hosts file............what precautions should be taken, just back it up?Originally posted by: 1Cheap2Crazy
Some people feel this program, Spybot, is better then Ad-aware. I use both. Just be careful if you use the HOSTS file. I found out that I couldn't connect to NAV after installing that file. Fast, and they seem to update their list more often. Spybot
Odd, I use Ad-Aware and it always found hotbar entries on my puters?jjsole
It found a couple things - hotbar and search-explorer entries - cool! Adaware didn't find these.

if you use the hosts file and can't connect to a certain site, why can't you just go in and edit the hosts file... remove the references to the site you wanted to go to... and all should be fine. (Or am I missing/misinterpretting something?)
errr...or you updated windows XP to service pack 1. :frown:Originally posted by: dirtrat
Be careful messing around with your HOST file. If you start getting alot of red X's instead of images loading on web pages you visit, then you know its being caused by your modified HOST file. Just a warning!if you use the hosts file and can't connect to a certain site, why can't you just go in and edit the hosts file... remove the references to the site you wanted to go to... and all should be fine.
