Free GigaFast 5- Port Ethernet Switch - EZ500-S at NewEgg, I think it costs $5 to ship. So that would be $20 + $5 shipping - $20 rebate. This isnt as good as the previous deal (8 port), but at a buck a port, this isnt too bad.

only downside is that there is an $80 MIR on the 16 port. kind of hefty/risky.

Probably be 'cheaper' to get the 5 port and the 8 port as the upfront cost won't be as much

Which previous time ?
I've gotten the GigFast rebate before from a different buy, but those 5 port switches seem to have been free for the last year or so, someplace always has a rebate.

I think he's talking about the previous 8 port deal at Newegg . . . I didnt get my rebate yet, but I think we can trust newegg.

I also got in on the 8-port freeby deal from newegg last time. and I too didn't get my rebate yet. Going on 2 months now. Hopefully it'll arrive soon.


EDIT: I just checked my paperwork and it says that you can check your rebate status here. Mine is in the system, still being processed...

I got in on the gigafast deals at least 2 months ago also and just got my rebate last week.

Picked one of the 16 port ones for $15 after rebate. $10 cost + $5 shipping. I think this is a good deal for a 16 Switch.

BTW: the picture of the 16 port switch in the rebate is not the same as the new updated 16 switches that ebay is selling that have the same model # as the ones in the rebate.

Quick tech question...

Why do some 4 port switches have 5 ports (I'm guessing 1 in, and 4 out), whereas other only have 4? I thought a switch was kind of like a router in that it had one input and a bunch of outputs, but I see that that isn't the case.

Example of a 5 port that actually has 6 ports (the top one on this link):

ONe is probably an uplink port... you can only use either the uplink or the normal port, not both at the same time.
