This is a great photo editor program and best of all, it is free.

It is definitely good for leisure or occasional use.

For more advanced user or those who need the extra feature(thus warrant it), Photoshop CS is there for you.

Eventhough it can't compare to PS, Gimp is by no means a basic image editing software.
Gimp is definately better than those basic image editor that comes with your digital camera.
I think Gimp is comparable to Paint Shop Pro.

I've been playing around with it today and I can say with little hesitation that its more powerful than Paintshop Pro. Its lacking just a little bit in the Filters department but it certainly isn't basic

It's hot to let people know that there is an alternative to software that costs over $10 (?). Anyhow, it's not Photoshop, but I'd gladly use it over PSP *any* day of the week.

The only 'major' feature GIMP is missing vs. Photoshop is CMYK color handling. Which is only relevant if you're doing any pre-press graphics work.

It's hot in that 2.0 just came out recently, and includes many more features.

Had it been out a few months, I would have said the same thing.

hmmm I've tried all the newest image editing progs, but I'm still using the same psp5 that I've used since 1997 because for I have yet to find a prog that's better. is this that prog? we shall see.....

It's just nowhere near as easy to use as Photoshop. They could take some lessons from Adobe in ease-of-use.

I got tired of GIMP 1.x's limitations but I guess 2.0 probably fixes a lot of the limitations it had. Of course, this is never going to be able to compare to PS for obvious reasons, but it's definitely waaay better than Paint lol

Give Photoshop 7 a try. I wish my boss would get the upgrade for CS though.

The reason why I post this as hot deal is because I think this is a very useful and capable photo editor.
Most of people who got their digital camera from HD forum usually either use the editor that comes with the camera (basic editor) or waiting for a deal on PSP or else.

I think Gimp 2.0 is much more refine than the previous version and deserved a special mention here in HD forum.
