It is time to end this deal.
From Amazon,
We just discovered a glitch in our Quick-Click(tm) Buying that allows a customer to add a "parent wireless phone" to an amazon.com shopping cart at $0.00. A description of how wireless phones are ordered at amazon.com is included below. If you are currently merchandising wireless phones on your site, please remove all "buy from amazon" buttons -- and any other code that allows a customer to add wireless phones directly to an amazon.com shopping cart -- for these products. Instead, please link wireless phones directly to the appropriate product detail page at amazon.com.
For those of you who may think that this is an easy way to get a phone for free -- sorry to disappoint you! We have back end code that prevents these orders from shipping. Besides, at $0.00 there is no associate fee to earn and only a poor customer experience for your visitors. Any order that is placed for a wireless phone, without the zip code and service plan (see below), will be cancelled and the customer notified by amazon.com.
Once the bug is fixed in our shopping cart, we will notify you via this announcement board when you can re-implement the "add to cart" functionality for wireless phone ASINs.
Thank you for your cooperation
Wireless phones
When a customer goes to the detail page of a wireless phone, he/she is directed through a special pipeline to purchase the phone. The first step requires the customer to input a zip code to see which phones are available in his/her service area. The second step requires the customer to select a service plan. Only then may the customer purchase a wireless "bundle" that contains both the phone and service plan. Wireless phones can not be purchased individually unless as an upgrade to an existing service plan (which requires the same above inputs). The ASIN that is displayed on the original detail page is a "parent asin" that is used to display the basic phone product information only and can not be ordered individually. We embed complex logic on our site to enforce these business rules to ensure a consistent customer experience.
For most wireless phones, the add to cart form submit (available in your add to cart and quick-click buying code) will handle the case when a zip code and service plan have not been selected. For these cases, the customer is automatically redirected to the product detail page to select the appropriate information. The same experience is true for apparel ASINs, which require a size and color before an item can be added to the shopping cart. For some wireless ASINs, however, this logic is not being enforced. We are working to correct this soon; when it has been fixed, we will post a follow-up announcement to this board."
Thanks again for your cooperation as we address this issue.
