Are you guys using your PC's as PVR's? (like Tivo, ReplayTV, etc)

Do they work well?

I've been using DScaler with my ATI TV Wonder for the past year. The image quality is a lot better than the ATI software and it's completely stable for me.

What have you been smoking?

Dscaler's picture quality is far superior then ATI's or any other software I've tested to date. It's intelligent filter options and non-api based tuning/rendering is what seperates this apart from ATI's bloatware.

Since dscaler is a not designed for one particular tv tuner card, it's gamma or brightness setting is set at a uniform level which may be why you lack the brightness. Try adjusting it.

Check the screenshots..

does this software utilize the "direct to MPEG capture" functionality of a TV-Wonder board?

Or will I have to go through the hassel of capturing to AVI, then converting to MPEG?

srs

i dont know about dscaler Titan TV allows you to have a guide plus like interface and 1 button recording
in exchange they keep records of what shows people watch but not what YOU watch. they have a nice list of the top recorded shows and stuff.
its a nice feature if your player (powervcr windvr and such) supports it.

on a ranting note..wtf does the ati software have a max cap of 640x240..wtf would record at that retarted resolution? /rant

Dscaler is the best software i've ever used for actually watching tv/video -superior picture quality if you set it up right (recording has a few issues, especially divx recordings, but it works after some trial and error and a few reinstalls)

i admit there was nothing wrong with ati tv wonder when i had it and the recordign quality of mpeg2 was great, but now i much prefer my powerVCR II divx recording setup (small files, good quality) on my winTV card -which has crap software btw.

I still think this should be moved to OT soon.

Dscaler has been around for a long time. ATi software is a lot better than Hauppauge software. Hauppauge software is terrible so why does no one complain about it?

While the Hauppauge software may not provide a great deal of features, the drivers for their cards seem to be solid and stable and having a working drivers is of first and foremost importance. This is especially true under win2k and XP. Those of you who say your ATI Tv wonder card worked just fine what OS were you using, an NT based version or windows like win2k or XP or some flavor of win9x? That makes a huge difference as ATI is notorious for having poor, if any, driver support for NT based versions of windows. Also, while the hauppauge cards may not come with alot of full featured software, you can easily use them with alot of third party freeware applications, like Virtualdub and Dscaler, that will give you all the functionality you need.
