Free Virus Protection

I uaw V Catch for automatic virus protection. I dont know if there is any negative side. AVG from Grisoft is also very good and probably most popular free virus detection system. Both update virus definitions every day

AVG is good enough for me.I ditched Norton and Mcaffee for it.

never heard of v catch but AVG is cool. Used to install AVG on cheap a$$ customer's PC's who didn't want to pay for NAV but quit after a few problems with it on XP. After installing it, you can update the definitions then it would automatically restart itself and it produced an error report. Nothing major but was weary of it after that. Haven't used it since and especially since they haven't had an update in a long time.

AVG goes on all my builds. My SOP is a realtor and gets a slew of crap from her posted email addie at realtor.com. AVG's caught everything successfully...unlike NAV.
Over at PC911 and PCQ&A, we consider that other one, Crapafee, to be a virus. While they have made some positive changes, so many of us got an attitude about their invasive, system taxing software...we find it difficult to let 'em in again.
NOD32 is getting great reviews and has a free 30 day trial.

I've never had a problem with Norton. I just installed AVG though on my laptop last night. I was too lazy to search for my Norton CD...

I use Grisoft AVG and like it. It's good protection and faster than Norton or McAfee.

I have never once had an error under any windows XP installation with AVG

AVG works great for me on Win2K and is updated every week or so. I keep mine turned off in the background, but it is always available with a right click to quickly scan a downloaded file. It's good for this and the occasional system check I hope that they don't start charging like a previous poster remarked. Computer Associates did the same thing, gave away an awesome free antivirus program(can't remember the name) for a couple of years and then cut the cord and started charging for it.

I didnt use it till few months ago when i got hit with couple of viruses same day

if you dont use it and you just broadcasted that fact, you may find out why you need it shortly. I hope not though, i just had to format a 100 gig hd because it was totally raped by a virus
