how can this be used as a fax number?

I wouldn't use the automatic configuration. The day after I signed up, they e-mail me an user name and a password which you need to setup your adapter.

Here is how mine is:
Line 2:
Line enable: Yes
Proxy: voip.callpacket.com
Outbound Proxy: voip.callpacket.com
Use Outbound proxy: Yes
Use OB porxy in dialog: Yes

That's it, no mac address is needed.

Note: Make sure your PAP-2 is unlocked.

Good luck!

how bout where you put in all the username/password info and in what boxes. And what did you use for your dial plan, the default values? codec? (I've heard that for callpacket, g729 is the recommended codec)..

I didn't use the CallPacket automagic configuration program either--I just entered the values directly into the PAP2's Line 2 settings, which are even simplier than my Line 1 VOIPBuster settings because I don't use an outbound proxy:

Line 2:
Line enable: Yes
Proxy: voip.callpacket.com
Use Outbound proxy: No
Use OB proxy in dialog: No

The User ID and Password are the same as those supplied in the CallPacket configuration program.

K,
Don't worry about codecs, just do what we told you and it should work just fine.

thanks guys it works now.. But what did you guys put in the Dial Plan field? According to the webpage, domestic local calls are free, so having a dial plan would have some use.

My other issue now is eliminating the huge delay for outgoing voipbuster calls through the pap2 (non-existent when using the computer client)..

Get the linksys pap2 ata device and mod it and attach a fax machine to it.

Sweet finally got it to work with my PAP2. It was just a little brain fart on my end.
Forgot to set the DNS server to my router.
After doing that it worked perfect and except for a minor glitch I was
very impressed with the voice quality.

Hmm...my voice quality on callpacket hasn?t been as good as voipbuster...but voipbuster has a delay and callpacket has no noticeable delay

The quality only seems bad when receiving on callpacket...any suggestions?...Im just using headphone/mic...no IP phone as of yet...any tweaks?

Also...I had a call on callpacket where the receive line kept looping the last syllable until the other caller said something, and then it would repeat that last syllable.

There sure has been a lot of interest in this and the PAP2. There has to be a fly in the ointment somewhere, at some point. But if you get the PAP2 for free and this continues past the Beta...we'll see.
In the meantime Geo., great post.

No fly, no ointment, it's all free. The PAP2 and callpacket.com. All you had to do was read, and not be scared.

I'm not saying there is a fly in the ointment, just that one might appear after the callpacket beta goes away...

Could be just a cheaper way to line up a half million customers at $16.66

is = present tense
might appear = future tense and speculative.
