My comp sci teacher was explaining that he could give us copies of MS Winbloze and Visual C++ (2K, XP, all latest versions..) for FREE, legally... and that he couldn't do this before but for some reason now he can. Wtf... ?
It's possible your school entered into a licensing agreement with Microsoft, which allows them to give away MS software (usually Visual Studio, office, windows). Your school can charge for media costs (mine charges $10 per copy) if they choose, or they can put it in the library for students to borrow.
