i just tried to check my credit score on freecreditreport.com. i was wondering how accurate the score they gave me is in relation to an actual credit check.

i'm wondering because a certain radio personality recently ran her credit check on freecreditreport.com and they gave her 643 and her boss had his car dealer friend run her score and she actually had 691. is this just kinda an isolated incident or is it common?

Yup, or you will notice $15 taken out every month from here on out.

Just go to Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax and get your actual credit score. You are guaranteed by law to get a free credit report every year from the actual credit agencies. You may also notice that your score is completely different between each one. I would not use freecreditreport.com or any other silly website that is designed to hook you and bill you without you knowing.

explain... i only got one score.
There are 3 major credit reporting agencies. Either you received a score from one of them or you received an average from all of them.

Either way, your credit score isn't pretty. You need to work on that.

I've heard that the credit bureau's monitor people who use freecreditreport.com and lower their scores by at least 20 points.

Sorry, read your OP wrong. It's the radio personality whose credit score sucks.

In the credit world "fair" means "so so." You need to work on that score.

Annualcreditreport.com is the only legitimate website for free credit REPORTS. You can request a report from each of the three credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and Transunion) every year. You can get all 3 at once or any different times. This means you can theoretically space out each credit report every three months and have a continuous cycle of credit reports. It does not, however, offer a credit SCORE.

I believe the most popular credit score is the FICO (Fair Isaac Corp.) score. Each of the three credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and Transunion) calculate their own credit score for you based on their own collected data. What they collect may be off from agency to agency and they may apply other rules on top of the FICO calculation, so your credit score will be different depending on where you request the score.

FICO offers credit scores at myfico.com and bases the score on information gathered by Equifax and Transunion. Freecreditreport.com is owned by Experian, so the credit score you get from them is Experian's.

No, people on ATOT tend to....over-state.

680+ will get you pretty much anything you want in life except some American Express cards. The rates will be higher on toys (boats, cars, etc) but you can still get them.

740+ is excellent and pretty much where it cuts off as far as benefit. With most loans, having a 800 score over a 750 score does not make a difference in rate, credit line, etc.

I use freecreditreport and am willing to pay the monthly fee. I've had identity theft twice, so it's worthwhile to me to keep a close eye on it. The score is accurate to the agency it's reporting from. They're usually only a few points off from each other, if at all.
