Allot of it is a judgment call. It was good for me to unload some things that I would have a hard time getting the garbage people to take. Like some big glass shower doors and hardware I took down from our new place. Too dangerous to leave up with kids but someone else is happy with them now.

My wife gives away all kinds of stuff. Like highchairs and whatnot. I free cycled a 21inch CRT with some discoloration on the corners and a TV with a cracked case.

If you are military most post/bases have a donation center for junior enlisted to pick up items for when they are first starting out. My wife was checking the local one out on base and found a solid oak nursery set w/ changing table. And if you can get access yard sales on base housing simply rock. Everyone is always unloading stuff for their next PCS.

Yep, you can unload a ton of junk on there. There are a few deals to get, as long as the moderators don't take it first! Most of the sites are setup to where the moderator has to approve all messages before they are posted.

My friend and ex-coworker was the 3rd guy to ever get onto this thing, I think he has a yahoo group dedicated to it.

i've been using it for a couple months now and its great., expecially for college students. I'm a design student and I needed a drafting table and other supplies and i posted it on the local freecycle. I had 3 offers within 3 hours fitting my exact needs. Upon arriving to pick up the table, the man who gave it to me included about $200 in extra supplies to go with it. People in this organization are very generous but try to return the favors and give up your old stuff too.

I have been using freecycle for a while now as well. Its a great way to take care of spring cleaning. My only complaint is that I have a lot of people who never show up to pick up there stuff.

The usefullness of this board depends on the local moderator.

I get better FREE stuff from ANAND Tech posts.

I contacted the owner of the "freecycle" idea and recommended he didn't just let anyone run a board. (Hes's in Phoenix) The moderator of the local board was unable to distinguish between a "link" and a "mail filter" (a particular line put in the subject line so the mail will be directed into a folder in my inbox).

She kept on threatening me with exile from the board for posting a "link" to something! When I explained what a mail filter was
she was even more abusive.

I get tons of stuff for free from many sources because I'm attempting to make my first short film in large part on America's
garbage. I got off that board ASAP!

When I first signed up in my area I noticed some petty bickering on the board, but I ignored it. As a fact some newsgroups leaders
are online just because they need to be abusive and controlling, this provides the perfect environment.
