The problem as I see it, is that we haven't figured out what kind of responsibility and what kind of media, social media and platforms like Spotify and Youtube are.
In traditional media there would be an editor with editorial responsibility sorting out the worst wackos, or at least have a profile that was clear of what to expect and the editor in the end could be held responsible for everything that was published.
And before we had the new media, we also had freedom of speech, but you were not guaranteed to get your opinion printed or brought in the news.
With these new media, there is no filter before it is being published, and so everybody has gotten to expect that if they cannot upload anything, it will be a limitation their right to freedom of speech. And when they get taken down it is also often quite vague why, and if nothing happens, then we see this cancel culture start to take control instead.
So basically, the problem is the anarchy of the internet, and people expecting or comparing it to the old times media.
When Spotify diversified into allowing political podcasts without any form of editorial responsibility, then the anarchy of the internet (Neil Young in this case) turns to cancel culture, because these are the tools in the anarchy of the internet.
Nah, I just don't live in the US so cancel culture has just haven't been a thing over here beforeCancel culture that didn't actually cancel anything but themself? That's the reason comments like yours are asinine.
And sorry, this shit is not new at all in this country. Right wingers have been pulling this shit perpetually for centuries in the US. The last major time they pulled this shit was in the 80s, where they ran around literally getting stuff cancelled while screaming about their personal freedoms being violated, despite it being blatantly dishonest. They play the victims while they do what they're demonizing others for allegedly doing to them.
Unfortunately people like you keep falling for this shit over and over and over, so we keep repeating the cycle. And it happens because as your post is proof of, we get attempts to pretend that its some fault of others when its all bullshit.
Its the same reason we can't make real lasting progress on racism. Or sexism. Or many other bigotry that continues, because, despite the overwhelming objective evidence showing irrefutably how full of shit right wingers are, people keep blaming other groups for it, instead of the right wingers.
Conservatives have always been in favor of freedom without responsibility
I really believe if Michelle Obama runs... she wins, she's the wife of the best President we had in our lifetime
I consider Universal Basic Income a good idea... I want free college education
spend more you republican piece of shit!
"Not all Donald Trump supporters are racist but all racists are Donald Trump supporters"
You should look deeper than the selected clips that nouveau fascists (meaning those who advocate censorship no matter their political leanings) have put out....I suspect that Rogan "cant" criticize the right cause he will lose his UFC gig.
I can understand why Niel doesnt want to share a platform with that shit.

That's about as relevant as the original KKK was started by Democrats. Now, if he still holds those views, then you'd have your bothsides gotcha. For Neil at least.Sauce for the goose

But what is the value in that? Why does ‘bothsidesism’ have such appeal to people? Why do they reach for it constantly? Are not such appeals just saying ‘I have a right to be wrong because I hate others who are wrong like me and I want them to feel how I was made to feel about being wrong’? Isn’t he just seeking justice, that everyone should feel as badly as he was made to feel? That's about as relevant as the original KKK was started by Democrats. I see it as "I've hated liberals my whole life and if it turns out they were never as bad as I thought I would look like a fool and THAT is NOT an option."But what is the value in that? What is the point of such spite? The way I see it they already do.
I see a world in which everybody wants everybody else to feel as bad as they do. What a noble aim.
I thought the points you made were very insightful, acurately diagnostic and thought provoking. And while I don’t disagree with his points about the right, I don’t understand his anger or how it applies to you.Nah, I just don't live in the US so cancel culture has just haven't been a thing over here before
Maybe it's easier for you to pretend someone said Rogan "is responsible for all of the countries[sic] ills" because that would make you look smarter than if you tried to fight against what's really being said about him....
But hey it's easier to pretend that a podcaster is responsible for all of the countries ills that take a hard look at one's own side.
Yes. We fear being seen as fools because how we would be treated for orthodoxy violations was made very clear to us as children. Now there is a war between those not completely broken in with those who were.I see it as "I've hated liberals my whole life and if it turns out they were never as bad as I thought I would look like a fool and THAT is NOT an option."
Whataboutism alert.
The fact that a batshit conspiracy nut like Rogan has such a large audience is bonkers. We are talking about a guy who for a long period of time was convinced that the moon landings were faked. The guy is an idiot and the only subject he knows anything about is MMA/ martial arts.
I don't get the woman. Is she just taking a "stand" purely as an opportunist, or is she legitimately behind the LGQT cause. Is she just some "this is what the liberal world looks like" faker working for the right wing nut case cause. Plus I'm tire about hearing about any "influencer". Maybe people should make up their own minds about things instead of substituting someone else's thoughts for your own.So.

Meet the woman behind Libs of TikTok, secretly fueling the right’s outrage machine
"Just four months after getting started, Libs of TikTok got its big break: Joe Rogan started promoting the account to the millions of listeners of his hit podcast. He mentioned it several times on the show in August, then again in late September. “Libs of TikTok is one of the greatest f---ing accounts of all time,” he said. With his seal of approval, Raichik’s following skyrocketed."
Rogan is getting back on my shit list. Little fucker.
