Played Earth and Beyond, and while it was ok, it had too many flaws to keep playing it...

Anyone play Freelancer yet? It is worth it? Not too much running around systems with nothing to do?

It was a LOT of fun, but way to short for how long they had to develope a stor (about 13 hours for me to get through it).

Then about 5 hours of doing random stuff afterwords and getting the best ship/exploring for fun.

Now there isn't anything else to do, and multiplayer is lacking.

For me, it was worth it because I love space sims. One of the funner games I've played in a while. But it was quite short.

I found it pretty fun, and multiplayer wasn't too bad either (my only experience with multiplayer is over a LAN though, don't know how fun it'd be over the internet). There's virtually zero replayability though in my opinion, even the multiplayer gets boring and pointless pretty quickly as you end up doing the same stuff over and over and money is just too easy to come by.

Yeah I can see how it definatly would get old fast. The mission types are pretty much "fly here, shoot this, tractor that"

Still, it's fun and it looks great. Some of the travel gets boring, but there's always the possibility of a trade lane attack, so you have to be on your guard.

For multiplayer, you really need to stick to one server, because characters don't carry over from one server to another

It's a pretty good game, a little short though, single player is good until you've discovered everything (this could take a while), same with multiplayer. The problem is that there isn't much variety in the game at all, not as much depth as a lot of people were hoping for. Some examples: all ships fly at the same speed, all missions are pretty much fly somewhere and destroy something, there is no dynamic commodities market, systems aren't randomly generated (would be nice for multiplayer servers), ...

BUT thankfully people are working on mods for this already and some look like they have a lot of promise, people are working on flying battlecruisers, changing ship speeds, creating new mission types, etc, etc...

Don't get me wrong though with the above, I was hooked on the game for a LONG time, if you've ever played Privateer or something similar, you'll know the "JUST one more mission and I'll stop" syndrome

Something to note, the game is all mouse controlled, so if you're expecting to fly with a joystick, well, you won't be But I have to admit, their interface is very easy to use, and you'll get used to it very quickly!

Hopefully an expansion pack will be released to add more variety, and of course they'll only make that expansion if people buy, soo....buy away

i beat it 2 days ago great storyline but after the game ends, I lost interest in trying to get the best weapons / ships because it takes to long to travel. Exploring around takes forever, it drove me nuts lol. and the missions are the same all the time.... like others have said.

was a great game, kept me occupied all day long for a good ONE WEEK. ok well not much, but at least that was longer than Unreal2 (which only took me 3 days and after i finished it i realized how crappy it was). i stopped playing right after the single player campaign although i COULD have done more random missions and explored the 15+ remaining star systems, including the fun Outcast ones, but by then I decided to move on to a different game.

LOL!

Nope, I'm afraid they don't...

That would be kinda cool, if people didn't have to die of course...

I'd love to be flying a Cobra or Apache around Iraq right now. Give me a lot of stories to tell the kids! Thumper would beat me senseless however if I even thought about it, cause she would be terrified of something happening to me.

The problem is being a real "bad guy" has major problems for your alignment and eventually you can even get the trade lanes to be hostile to you, and pretty much everyone opens fire on you. Also "good guy" bases refuse to allow you to dock, so what's the point. You have to go around looking for actual secret pirate bases and you can't use trade lanes so it takes forever to get somewhere.

Yeah, you can still use trade lanes. They just fire at you is all.

Now if you get a jump hole locked on you, then you're SOL with a passion.
