I would like to again ask the community to post in the Windows Vista Security Thread (linked at the top of the OP) regarding compatibility with any of these applications in Windows Vista x32 and x64, you will be credited for discovering it in that thread and it will help the community know what is safe to install in Vista x32 or x64.

The final revision 5 of this thread will come shortly after Rev 11 of the CST.

About Kerio Personal Firewall, it was bought by Sunbelt Software. Yes, it's shareware now, but you can keep using it in free mode after the 30 day trial expires. Free mode is pretty good. I don't miss any of the features of full mode.

I use tea timer on most installs. It takes very little resources and has saved me a few times. Every time something installs into a critical part of the registry it pops up with a confirm or deny question. Most installs won't even trigger it but if you install/change a service or startup program it lets you know.

anyone have trouble getting free avg to startup by default with vista?

I've installed and reinstalled several times but I get an error everytime. I have to manually start it.

I can't seem to install AOL AVS with Vista Ultimate.. I keep getting an unknown error 3/4 through and it rolls back the install.. I just did a clean install of Vista, so I don't have any other antivirus program conflicting. Any suggestions?

As stated in the OP, Kaspersky has not handed over the Vista compatible version of AVS to AOL yet, probably to sell more copies of the excellent KAV.

Medea has notified me that no one should use ComboFix until further notice. A malware creator has found a way to get it to delete important windows files.

EDIT: John is way ahead of me, combofix has already been removed it, as stated below
EDIT2: I still can edit the OP, I need to let a mod know about this, but yet, I can edit this post

On 2-15 I added a disclaimer in my rogueremovalkit README to "run at your own risk" since the author had just pulled the program. A few days later I removed it altogether.
