Hi,

Here are some more free software I found useful:

--------------------------------------------------

VisualSVN Server
VisualSVN Server makes the Subversion server easy and convenient to install and administer on Windows.
It's an easy way of installing and administer an SVN server on windows. It install a service, and works great.

--------------------------------------------------

TeamViewer
TeamViewer establishes connections to any PC or server all around the world within just a few seconds. You can remote control your partner's PC as if you were sitting right in front of it.
Through the use of ID's and passwords, one can connect to a remote computer, even when behind a proxy. Works great, and it doesn't even need to be installed, there is a mode that allows the software to run and connect (or get connected to) without any installation.

--------------------------------------------------

JDiskReport
JDiskReport enables you to understand how much space the files and directories consume on your disk drives, and it helps you find obsolete files and folders.

The tool analyses your disk drives and collects several statistics which you can view as overview charts and details tables.
Needs Java to run, it displays disk usage with a simple interface and easy to read pie-charts.

--------------------------------------------------

JPathReport
JPathReport enables you to understand how much space the packages and classes consume in your Java class path. And it can help you find class paths problems.

JPathReport analyses your class paths and collects several statistics which you can view as overview charts and details tables.
Needs Java to run. Same as above JDiskReport, but this time for classpath packages ... useful for a Java developer.

--------------------------------------------------

Keep the good work of maintaining this list.

All in an easy report that can be sent to others or saved for later viewing?

You can also try JPathReport .

I'm looking for a free software that can read and store a folder structure and it's files, for remote reference. Something like File Structure Grabber but free ...

What I want? I want to open in a remote computer the folder structure of my home computer. I don't want to access my computer, I just want to browse through an "image" of the folder structure, files and sizes. For reference.

Core FTP Lite is working well for me as a free FTP program.
http://www.coreftp.com/

FileZilla is broken as a client in recent versions since the author stopped using the most compatible directory listing command in favor of a more "RFC purist" method that returns empty folders from many / most FTP servers.

Just tried this, it's great. The top 50 view allowed me to clean 20GB off my drive.

I recently had to do some disk imaging/cloning at work and spent a lot of time trying different programs so I thought I'd share this software I found after much trial and error:

EASEUS Partition Manager

I must have tried 8 different similar programs off of various lists and searches before I found this one. It's by far the best out of the ones popular ones I tried. Most of them handle the basic features pretty well if you just need to delete/create a partition, but once you need to do some serious drive cloning that's where EASEUS really shines. A lot of the Linux based ones (gpart) don't handle NTFS that well although the nice thing about the Linux ones are that you can usually download a bootable CD image which is convenient. Most of the Windows ones tease you with some basic functionality, but don't do what you really need (or not without buying some upgrade version at least).

I'm not going to do a full blown review of EASEUS here, but basically I had to do some SSD testing at work. Basically, I am trying to convince my work of the advantages of SSD drives for some of our heavy-duty users. I bought a single Samsung SSD to test (yeah, they're cheap cause they would only let me get one) so I had to take a users desktop/laptop, clone their drive to the SSD, run tests on the SSD, then swap back their original drive and clone their drive back. Sounds simple right? WRONG!! Believe it or not, only about 2 or 3 of the ~8 programs I tried could do this successfully. Most of them failed were due to the fact that they didn't create the cloned partition size exactly/properly to the original. Windows would fail to boot when I cloned the system partition with most of the tools. Some of them worked, but I would have to create the new partition manually. None of the programs let me create a partition that matched the original in size exactly. This is okay except when you try to go back to the original drive and your partition is now slightly bigger than the original and you can't go back.

Anyways, long story short I nominate this to be added to the list as this program blows away the competition. It's so good I'd actually consider paying for some of their other apps if they're to the same standard as the partition manager.

Ref my post regarding EASEUS Partition manager on page #16.

EASEUS Partition manager is now called EASEUS Partition master. Latest ver is 4.0.1

PS
your link is broken. The reason for that is once again some FuseTalk bug. My link on page 16 is still functional.

I'm trying to find an alternative to Adobe Acrobat, one which allows selecting multiple files in explorer, right clicking, and converting them to pdf files.

I use a free program called bitripper. It will rip and convert to many formats including xvid and divx. Although I have not tried to get one at 700 but I'm sure you can change the settings. I'm getting about 870 mb size out of mine from a dvd rip. Some people reports problems running it on vista but I have no issues on mine but I do have aero turned off.

copy and paste text about it..

What I like about BitRipper: some cool features

* Decrypts and converts: combines the DVD decryption and conversion processes, so that you no longer have to think of these as two distinct parts requiring different programs. More convenient but also will save you a lot of time and manual involvement with the process.
* Handles any DVD: whether its a normal 4.7 Gig size or a double density 8 Gig+ DVD. ?Decryption? mentioned above means that BitRipper will copy most commercial, copy-protected DVDs (includes ?3rd party? CSS decryption module. (I am guessing that some very recent DVDs might have protections that it will not be able to decrypt).
* Converts on the fly: i.e. does not save the DVD to your hard drive first and therefore does not require gigabytes of free space on your hard drive to run.
* Installer includes codecs: installing BitRipper will also install a number of codecs that you need to perform a conversion, but the program will also use any codecs that you might have pre-installed on your system. I would advise downloading and using the LAME MP3 codec which provides better audio quality options than the included MP3 codec.
* Simplicity: the program is designed to suggest a simple, 1-click conversion (see screenshot above), where you merely insert a disc and press a button. My experience, however, is that this is the case if you do not want/need to customize the conversion settings, at which point things can become both complex and confusing.
* Ability to convert all parts of a track at once: by this I mean that BitRipper will allow you to select all tracks within a DVD at once. Can be very useful, especially when you want to convert all episodes of a TV series at once into a single AVI.
* Customizable: to a good extent; in terms of quality, resolution, aspect ratio, and output file size. More on this in the ?wish list? section below.
* Audio normalization: you can easily raise (and lower, if you like) audio volume from the main conversion interface.
* Performance: is quite fast, although this is somewhat subjective and variable.
* Compression: use the Xvid video and Mp3 audio codecs for high compression.

get it here http://bitripper.com/index.html

I don't know of any free program that can do what you ask but you can use a PDF printer as an alternative. I recommend PDF redirect (my 2nd post on page #16). PDF redirect installs a file printer that converts all printouts sent to it to pdf files. It also supports merging and password protection. Unfortunately if you don't want to merge multiple files in one pdf you'll have to print each file separately.

For renaming MP3 files for my ipod I like TagScanner. They have a powerful set of tools that allows batch processing. I think download.com has it.

Never mind. Found one I like. Called Hotkey CD Eject. Pretty small and basic which is what I wanted.

I would warn you against using Alzip - it is a atrociously notorious program in korea for making a stupendous amount of irremovable malicious registry entries without the user's conscent. If anyone cares, the company (Alsoft) are bunch of crooks that ripped off other popular compression formats, removed CRC checking and published it as their own (.alz: their proprietary file format which is supposed to be of their "genunine" development effort). Uploading .alz files to local BBS had been almost considered a public disdemeanor for quite some time. Just thought you should know.

Although I have already mentioned it in another thread, I HIGHLY recommend that you check out KMP - by far the best video player (plays music too, but I would rather use foobar2k for that) I have used.

I still see alzip in the OP, hence my repeated warning - buyer beware! You won't believe how many people hate that program (alzip) where it originates from. It just grew popular since most people are computer illiterates and could care less, and they also like freebies. Local tech forums like QAOS rip it to shreds and strongly warns you against installing it on your computer.

Just tried to use PC-Tools and it installed a bunch of crapware and is now saying that it won't clean the found infected files unless I purchase the full version.

What would be the bestest of the best?

Bestest of the best for cleaning or internet security? For cleaning up malware I would say Malwarebytes or Dr. Web's Cure-It. For realtime security I would say Avira, Kaspersky, Nod32 or F-Secure. The free version of Avira is pretty good, so is Avast and Morro (Microsoft Security Essentials beta), and some of the best firewalls are free- Comodo, PC Tools and the free versions of Online Armor and Outpost. There are also good free anti-spyware scanners with SuperAntiSpyware.

I like running Avira free alongside Prevx free and scanning with Hitman Pro. Prevx and HMP are cloud based. Prevx will detect but not clean in the free version. But at least you will know where the infection is and be able to get a second opinion with Virus Total. Prevx has an exceptionally high malware detection ability. HMP uses Nod32, Avira, A-Squared, Prevx and Gdata (Bitdefender/Avast signatures) and is free untill the first cleaning is needed and that starts a 30 day trial. I have not needed the cleaning of HMP yet. And it is supposed to release a context menu/shell extension over the next few days (point at a file, right click and scan with HMP). You can also get a shell extension to right click a file and upload it directly to VirusTotal-

http://www.virustotal.com/metodos.html

Lots of people use Sandboxie and GesWall free versions although there is also Defensewall and AppRanger for sandboxing programs. And there are more free back up programs to count, I like Karen's Replicator as it fits my basic needs.

And finally using an alternate browser as opposed to Internet Explorer will save a lot of problems. I like Google Chrome, Opera and Firefox.
