I have searched in other threads for help, but none of the soultions provided helped.

Basically, after getting into games again, it seems my computer cant take the games it used to once run so nicely I am just using Brothers in Arms, Swat 4 and others to test. I was all ready to try BF2, but i dont want to spoil it yet

I formatted
fresh install of xp sp2
new bios
installed new directx
nvidia drivers...etc

Baically it just freezes between every 5 to 45 seconds in game, then eventually "catches up" if i put settings as low as they can go, this doesnt happen as often

rendering all 3d games unplayable..=/

any help appreciated, thanks

p4 2.6
Abit IC7-G
550 watt power supply
geforce ti4600 AGP
Seagate 200 gb boot drive
1536 mb crucial ddr

windows xp sp2, newest directx, drivers, bios etc.

it is pretty much any 3d application, i tried loading up some older games (cs, kingpin lol) and i still get the freezing.

if it helps, I do not get the skipping sound, only a video freeze. sometimes sounds/dialogue actually play normally while video is frozen.

i notice in brothers in arms (640x480 with all options off/low) i get oddly colored shapes/ghosting etc after the game has been running a few mins or so.

any help appreciated everyone

although its fun to price out new systems and a 7800...i just have other priorities right now and would like to make this rig work

The rig is fine you should be able to play them. Have you gotten that latest drivers? are you oced at all? See if any of your processes are taking up more memory than they should be taking up

first of all, your computer is too slow. I have a 6600gt and even it has trouble. second, you have to turn off zone alarm for the game to work.

What is wierd is that he tried using older games, like Kingpin, and still got freezing. Could the newest DirectX drivers be giving him trouble? Maybe these new drivers ask for processes which the video card simply can't handle. Very strange. The ti4600 is about on par with the 9700, the 9800 is around the same speed at the 6600GT, so it seems strange to me that the ti4600 wouldn't have the raw processing power to play even modern games - on low settings of course.

I hate to recommend it, and I know it sounds like pulling teeth, but you might want to try formatting and reinstalling Windows. You can store your important files, music video what not, on an MP3 player or something or even a seperate partition if you know how to do such things.

Is your copy of windows fully updated? Have you scanned for spyware & viruses with updated scanners? Have you used the latest version of Driver Cleaner before installing either the 43.45 or 44.03 detonator drivers? I have a ti4600 and it can still hold its own, the problem certainly isn't simply that the card is a few years old.
