Freezing/Lock ups 6800 Ultra Gaming

i just put together a new comp, and when ever i play a game (so far doom 3, farcry, cs source) the games lockup and freeze while playing and usually my computer restarts itself and right before i see a blue screen telling me about my video card (but it restarts before i can actually read much of it) then windows restarts with an error saying my display driver is causing the problem. The lockups are random could be as soon as i start the game or after a few minutes of playing (though cs has not been locking up recently). My system runs really cool with temps in the low 30s celcius, and the processor barely peeks above 40 when in serious use. All drivers are current, and i've even fiddled with beta nvidia drivers -- nothing works. the rest of my specs are as follows: athlon64 3400+, epox 8KDAJ mb, 1gig of corsair xms mem, and evga 6800 ultra, nothing is overclocked. I still insist its a driver problem, or perhaps a bios setting which i doubt. Oh and the psu is a 480watt thermaltake. Don't know what else it could be unless its bad hardware--sure hope not. Games run fine otherwise, until they lockup Hoping someones got some advice. Oh one more tidbit, very rarely while in windows the monitor flashes black for a second then goes back to normal (i have a dell 2001fp lcd monitor). Thanks!

You dont happen to have AMDs cool 'n' quiet enabled do you?

Also I would try the 61.77s until you can get it stable before venturing off into the world of beta drivers. It can be a nasty place full of surprises

no no cool n quiet, the thing is everything was running ok, i had played doom for acouple hours with no problems at all, then later that night a friend of mine was playing and the freezing started to happen. I tried to remember if i did anything inbetween but didn't think so, so i reformatted and installed everything fresh and it still happens...

Mine (eventhough it is a 6800NU) is doing the exact same thing. I actually got frustated and pulled out my video camera so I could read the blue screen before it goes away. It says something about a driver issue and then restarting so as not to damage windows or the system (I forget which one) and then physical memory dump...

Let me know if you figure this out b/c it is driving me nuts. I also have a new computer and this seems to be the only issue.

this is the same problem that I am having as well. I have flashed the video BIOS and all the suggestions in these forums..

I can't get it to QUIT. I even pulled the A2 ZS, didn't make a difference... This is very frustrating...

I've got the same problem. I'd be handy if I could have your system specs so I can let you all know what I've done and my current suspicians...

Athlon XP 3200+ (barton obviously)
Corsair 2x512 XMS 1gb pc3200
XFX Geforce 6800GT
SATA Hdds
Antex Truepower 550watt PSU

etc.

Well, it probably does not make sense, since you all guys have relly powerfull PSUs, but I had a very similar problem, when the card did not get enough power. Then the same thing happened. Can the PSU be faulty or something???

My 6800 Problems were power supply related... As soon as I took the extra case fans off the power supply and ran a dedicated power lead to the 6800 it became stable... This sucker needs 75 watts of power by itself.... You'd think a 550 or 600 Watt power supply would cut it.. but the AMD64/6800GT combo is power hungry like I've never seen...

Replaced my case fans with a single 120mm 120 volt radio shack fan...

Thermaltakes power ratings seem to be off, ive had a lot of power-related issues with heavy loads on thermaltakes.

Replacing a thermaltake 550w with an Antec or Enermax 550w almost always fixes it.

I have been completely mental for the last two weeks going through the same problems described. Running the Ultra 6800 seemed to go fine for about a week when the bluescreens and failures appeared.

I replaced an Antec TrueBlu 380 with a Thermaltake Purepower 560 and things have finally settled down.

If I could I would send the Ultra back and get a Radeon Board. The power requirements of this board seem way over specs and manufacturers suggested setup.

350 watts at full load?? Give me a break!!! Read all the posts!!!

There should be a class action suit...
