I don't care if people don't buy their stuff. I can't remember the last time I bought anything thing that had Made In France stamped on it. I wouldn't know if I did or didn't.

I agree to some degree with LilBlin that the boycott hurts the average French Joe, and I've got some cousins over there somewhere, and despite the fact that they don't agree with the US politically, I really don't care to strong-arm them with my wallet.

I guess its just not a priority to me. I was never much one for boycotts. They do have a temporary short-term effect, but I think it will drop off sooner than later.

Yes, you are right, I am a self hating American.

I can't think of anything more wonderful than the joy of French cheese. What an absolutly astounding race. Phenominal. Goats and sheep walk around in my mouth when I eat their cheese. Cows go MOOO. Incredible, what joy it brings. A million kinds. If I live for ever I'll never taste them all. Viva la France! I gotta go taste some cheese. I got Micheline on my Cadillac too. Perfect for hauling cheese.

So in other words you have nothing to offer, as usual. Because you agree with the French you think everyone should just keep it to themselves. Oh yeah, I forgot. The people who are doing this are "stupid and ignorant". Words that I think I have seen you use to describe the President. Maybe you should take the high road and keep it to yourself?

Isn't freedom a bitch. Especially when it's used to support a position you don't.

All I'm saying is what's the point of all this? Is this supposed to be a warning that if you don't agree with us we will make your life a misery? Is that it? You think they don't already know that a lot of Americans are pissed of at them? But I guess that's not good enough for you. And yes, I think vendetta is stupid and ignorant, but hey, you were lucky enough to be born in the most powerful country in the world, who am I to stop you from enjoying that? Just thank god when you go to bed tonight that random chance worked out in your favor, you could have been born in Haiti.

It is to censor discent and call it unamerican or even threaten bodily harm as in the case of Dixie Chicks.

So what if they know that. It's meaningless. Boycotting has meaning and it has teeth. Many people think the French were just being contrary, acting in their own best interest and/or think that French troops should have been fighting alongside American troops in Iraq. Boycotting French products is the only way they have to show their displeasure. It's the same as the Dixie Chicks. Hit 'em in the pocketbook. Unions encourage their members to buy only union made goods, etc, etc. Money makes the world go 'round my naive friend.

Irrelevant drivel.

That just goes back to my point of vendetta. What does it achieve? What do you want from the French now? A public apology? Guarantee that they will NEVER disagree with us again. I cannot understand the reasoning, or what people think it will achieve.

Of course it is. You don't have to worry about it, or maybe you don't want to so you can feel better about yourself.

More irrelevant and now ignorant drivel.

Do you even know what ignorant means? Let me help you out:

Ignorant:
1. Lacking education or knowledge.
2. Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake.
3. Unaware or uninformed.

Here's a homework assignment. Show the class how that last statement demonstrates ignorance.

Shove your homework up your ass. You're ignorant because you say "I don't have to worry" or "maybe you don't want to so you can feel better about yourself". You know nothing about me, where I live, what I feel, what I worry about, etc. etc. Therefore you are ignorant. You post things about me or make assumptions about me based on what? Nothing, therefore you are ignorant.

So why don't you give your view on it instead of just throwing fun words at me? If it is something you worry about, it wouldn't be "irrelevant drivel" as you so eloquently put it. So obvioulsy you don't or you're just contradicting yourself. My assumptions about you are based on whay you say, your words paint a pretty vivid picture.

U.K. Hints at Punishment for France
Fri Apr 25

France may face consequences for opposing the U.S.-led war against Iraq , Britain's foreign secretary said Thursday, echoing similar warnings from Washington.

(The interesting part)

Straw also said the war could have been avoided if France and Russia had joined Britain and the United States in giving Saddam Hussein "a really tough ultimatum" on getting rid of weapons of mass destruction.

"Decisions have consequences and some of the approaches which were taken by some of our continental colleagues were simply inexplicable to most people in the U.S.," the British Broadcasting Corp. quoted Straw as saying.

"My criticism of my colleagues in France and elsewhere in Europe...is that they all willed the end, which was the disarmament of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and his compliance with the U.N., but they failed to will the means," he told a BBC phone-in show.
_______

It's sad that we will never know what would have happened if the world had presented a united front to Saddam.

Hardly. I'm the guy who asked a question earlier in the thread. One that you nor anyone else has answered.

Some of this 'boycott' thing makes no sense whatsoever, though. Not buying goods that are actually from France is one thing... renaming 'french fries' and 'french toast' is hardly a boycott though. Not only are they not products made in France, but they're not even French to begin with.

This reminds me of hearing about 'freedom cabbage' in WWII.. because nobody wanted to call it saurkraut.

I laugh at silly boycotters who wont buy French products, but probably own a german car and ten thousand products from China. Werent they opposed to the war too?

But it's a democracy, people can do whatever they want no matter how silly or stupid.

That's right, I/we all support terror and fundementalist regimes with every fill up.

Disclaimer: I hope you can think, and see the irony of boycotting one and not the other
