Has anyone tried making something to cool a cpu that uses freon? afaik, freon is the gas that things like fridges use to keep things cool.. aside from possibly being a bit hefty, wouldnt this work pretty well? all you'd have to do is go to a junkyard or something and grab one of the tanks with the stuff in it then hook it up somehow ..

Also, does anyone know of any commercial water cooling kits? im looking for something small that i could maybe bolt to the little area near the pc speaker and keep it out of sight.. im too lazy to build one myself..

Fridges and Ac units and other such things utilize some type of freon... however in order for freon to be used to cool you need
1 a compressor
2 an evaporator
3 a condensor

Being an AC tech i've thought about setting something up however you would also have to worry about the immense condensation problem. Which is why there is a pan to catch liquid in your refrigerator. The pan catches all the condensation then it evaporates out.. AC units use a condensation line to remove all the moisture.

If you were to want to set something up...you would have to think about where to place the cooling coils... those WILL seriously create moisture... and even pulling the air off those lines such as an AC unit does.. the air will contain moisture... as well as condensation forming when chilled air hits high temp electronics..

Not to bust your bubble but it would be far too complex for most people to do. And even if possible it would be costly with lots of drawbacks.... thats why you dont see anyone making and selling something like this.

You'll want to use something that has a high specific heat (cal/g/C°). This way, it will absorb as many calories of heat as possible without warming up as much itself. Water's specific heat is 1 cal/g/C°, and tests using alcohol showed that alcohol worked less efficiently than water. I suspect freon would show worse results than alcohol. specific heat of ethyl alcohol=approx. .5 cal/g/C°
specific heat of freon=approx. .2 cal/g/C°

freon would heat up almost five times faster than water, and due to it's low boiling point, it may vaporize inside your circuit, build up pressure and cause a rupture.

wow.. so someone is doing it I just checked the website...
are they actually cycling through a heatsink or grabbing the refrigerated air?

And just think I open my mouth on something which I do have a bit of technical expertise in...
and of course im wrong.

Still i will say it would be very difficult for most people to set up.
