Australia can be very costly. Are they providing room and board or a very good salary?

Also at the rate you'll be flying you'll hit the AA top tier elite level which brings some nice goodies.
If you are flying coach (I pity you) I recommend you look into the the qantas program instead of AA. Once you hit oneworld sapphire you will be able to use the admirals club in Denver (and LAX if you connect there), and you wouldn't be able to do that if you did AA's program.
edit : become a member of flyertalk and read up on it there, it could be that depending on the fare class you buy my advice above would be a bad idea...

I used to do a lot of domestic traveling for work (4000+ miles per week). Make sure you take advantge of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I focused on United and Hyatt and got ridiculous amount of points to last me years. Check out flyertalk.com and take advantage of promotions to optimize your stays
each airline has a different max depth and max weight for carry-ons in my experience. But I always flied plebeian class. Just check on the website first.Something that caught me out recently- some non-US carriers have weight limits on carry-ons. They tend to be very low. It pays to look up the carry on weight before booking.
