Frequent lockups = not enough power?

I've got a Tbird 800 @ 900 and I get frequent freezes. I've only got a 250watt PS (I can hear my fans change speed when the processor starts doing some heavy work). Could this be the problem?

Yes.
Check the temperature - if you're sure temperature isn't a problem try adjusting your Vcore.

I'm not talking about the vcore, I'm talking about the actual poewer supply. My temperature is never over around 42c when these lockups occur.

A 300 Watt PS is recommended, although I personally was fine using an old AMD recommended 250 for Athlons. I think your lockups are probably coming from your voltage not being set high enough on the CPU, although you havent really mentioned what it is set too. With temps in the 40C's it really sounds like your voltage is set too low to provide the stability you are looking for. Running an 800 @ 900, you may want something like 1.75V.

My core voltage is set to 1.80. The lockups seem to occur at 1.85 also. The computer doesn't freeze while it's idle or anything.. It usually freezes when I'm running a large self extracting install file (e.g. the 50 meg BeOS file). The hdd and the processor are working harder than normal, and my +5 voltage usually drops to below 5 (4.9 or so, don't know if that matters).

CPUtester, yes the lockups occur at default speed. I think I'll get a new PS. This one isn't AMD approved either.

Sounds good. If your interested I have a Fortron/Source FSP300-60GN 300 Watt power supply that I have been using for half a year. You could have it for 30 dollars shipped. Just email me if your interested.

Turns out it wasn't the power. My secondary WD 13 gig hard drive doesn't seem to like the Highpoint IDE raid controller on the KT7-Raid. I put that hard drive on the main IDE controller and left my IBM 75GXP on the raid, and no more lockups.. go figure!
