Nothing feels better than a freshly stringed guitar going through 2 tube rectifiers.

So this thread isn't a total waste, guitar players what strings do you usually use
and what gauge?

Ernie Ball regular slinkys(10-46) for me. I'm starting to go through withdrawal because I blew a tube out of my guitar head last week. Playing an electric unplugged isn't much fun, but I should have my replacement quad of power tubes tomorrow.

I remember I used to wait so long to change my strings that the sound coming out of my amp was a night and day difference. Now, I change strings regularly every month or so.

Me too man, the bloody G string was like a rusted bike chain, I waited so long because I'm lazy but it sounds ridiculously great now... 4 months is too long

What kind of head you got? What kind of power tubes are you getting?

Edit: I'm an idiot, you have it right in your sig
Question remains about tubes though

My g sting sounded terrible. I went to Sam Ash and bought the Polyweb Elixir's, which don't rust. Cost about 11.99 I spend this much on strings because I know they last, especially Elixir's. They are .10-.46 Awesome. Love the sound and feel of these strings.

I like the nanoweb ones myself, but I'm not a fan of elixirs usually. They are a great string but the tone feels somewhat lifeless to me. The Boomers have amazing tone but it's gone too fast. I'm still looking for a happy medium

A Peavey XXX head. I have 4 Sovtek 6L6WXT+'s on the way. My amp previously had 6L6WXT's in it, and I guess I paid the price of buying used. Just got the amp a few months ago so I'm guessing the tubes were either stock or old. Ah well, what's $50 when I've already spent about a grand on the halfstack? I should be giving the amp some more balls while I'm at it with the slighter different tubes.

I love the tone of the Elixirs. Best I've used so far. I haven't tried the Boomers yet though. I heard D Addario makes some awesome strings. Would love to try out the Dean Markley's though.

How long are they supposed to last?

I use 10-46. D'addario XL's are nice, but I've switched to Long & McQuade store brand strings. They're repackaged Dean Markley's. Dirt cheap at $4 CDN and sound good.

Good choice.

You should check out www.eurotubes.com
JJ tubes are my favorite.

I've got a matched pair of EL34L's coming and 2 Yellowjackets to go with them. Yellowjackets are converters that slip into any EL34 or 6L6 pin pattern and allow you to put EL84 tubes in. I am running the two YJ's on the far left and far right and the two EL34L's in the middle. I run the stock 2 tube rectifiers because I like the sound (sovtek). 5U4G I believe. The tone is fvcking ridiculous with this because it drops the grid voltage making my ClassA/B head into a pure ClassA circuit and lowers the wattage so it gets the power tubes smoking at lower volumes.

For months on. I prefer these over the 5 dollar strings because then I end up restringing every couple weeks.

Lucifer you should check out the Boomers next time you're in the market. I figure you play a lot of metal and the top end tone on these strings is perfect for that.

I probably should. I have another pack of Elixirs, but my e string busted while I was tightening it, so I had to take out the e out of my new pack. I'm sure the others will last a long time so what good will 5 other strings do me. Except back up, but I prefer to change my strings all at once with all new strings.

I'll check out the Boomers too. I've seen them at Wal Mart, but for a while I thought they were some generic brand, lol since I used to always get DR's.

They're pretty badass, you won't be disappointed.

FYI, use musicians friend, they always have X number of pack sales where you can get like 5 for super cheap. I got a pack of 10 EB's and a pack of 10 boomers for like dirt cheap doing this.

Look how much cheaper than retail

They usually lose their tone after about a month of playing (everyday). If you clean your strings with one of those microfiber cloths it preserves the quality of the string but not the tone sadly.

That's what I like about the Elixir's though. They last for quite a while. Well, it's not like re stringing is a hassle anyways.
