lol why would you want a 7 string? I had an 7 string Ibanez Gio for about 3 days before I decided to get rid of it. I hated it. But then again, Gio's are teh suxor anyway.

Ibanez guitars blow

I want a 7 string for the low tuning capabilities. A lot of the metal I want to play is in C and C#, B and A, and my guitar cannot scale that low. It will have baritone capabilities. Plus the extra string is badass.. but I used to play bass so maybe that's why I want another B

The guitar itself is ridiculous... EMG 707 active hums, think EMG 85 mixed with EMG81 but made for a 7 string scale.. it fvcking owns man.

hahaha, after using that Gio I did come to the conclusion that Ibanez guitars do blow.

I think I'm happy with a 6 string, 24 frets. That Ibanez made me hate 7 strings, so I'm not sure when I'll give 7's a chance.

Is the 85 in the neck or bridge? I heard that having the 85 in the bridge is a lot better than having the 85 in the neck. Also, what guitar?

The pickups are called EMG707's one in each position.. I was simply giving the reference to the 85/81 as far as tone.. it's a hybrid of the two sounds.

Here it is:

Will make a nice addition to my 6 string PRS Custom

Sweet! Schecter's are real nice. Would also love to own a PRS, but just way out of my price range. My next guitar is probably going to be a Carvin.

I did a lot of modifications to it. I put a hotter uncovered humbucker in the bridge and left the covered alnicoV magnet pickup in the neck for a creamy blues tone. It's the best of both worlds imo. (think jimmy page). I also replaced all the knobs and adjusted the bridge piece. I think it came out rather well.

EDIT: Here's the Carvin I want.

thanks

That guitar looks slick as hell man, love the inlays.

What kind of electronics?

Carvin's own Humbuckers. This one has C22N and C22B Humbuckers. They let you upgrade the humbuckers for a little more. I like Carvin because you can customize the guitars. You can even add a Floyd Rose to it, but screw that. I'm a huge fan of the Tune o Matic bridge.

EB Super Slinkies here also!

I also really like Blue Steel strings, but they're a tad pricey.

I can't remember the exact weight but usually D'Adarrio .46 to whatever. Just a little heavier that usual.

I used to play often. Back then it was a new set of strings every 4 or so days. 10-52 (hand picked hybrid) Ernies or D'Addarios.

I used to use EB RPS .09's. I haven't had a new set of strings in about 4 years though, I lost the desire to play somehow

It is nice to read threads about this, and how much something so simple is appreciated. There is nothing like hearing the harmonic's of a chord with new strings.

Another one for the EB Super Slinkies. Sometimes I'll go up a gauge for the EAD strings if I have them though.

So this thread isn't a total waste, guitar players what strings do you usually use
and what gauge?

< -- GHS Boomers or Ernie Ball Super Slinkies (pink) at 9-42

Well, now that I'm not on tour like I used to be, I take whatever my guitar tech buddies will send me. BUT I do use Dean Markleys and Ernie Ball primarily
