Freshly Built Computer - 2 Problems

I'm actually posting this from my old computer (you'll know why in a minute) but anyway,

1. I'm using an 120 GB SSD as my primary drive for things like WIN 7, and other highly used programs, etc - and a second 1 TB HDD for everything else. On my first boot up I only had the SSD plugged in to make sure WIN 7 was installed on that drive(thanks for the tip Mfenn!).

So once windows was done installing, I turned it off and plugged in the second 1 TB drive before booting up again. Now I can see the new 1 TB HDD in the BIOS, along with the SSD, but when I'm in windows and go to Start -> Computer I only see the 120 GB SSD, and not the 1 TB HDD.

2. Pretty much can't connect to the internet on the new system, I've installed all the drivers from the motherboard CD. So I plugged my old computer back in, and I now I can't get on the internet on old computer. I unplugged everything multiple times, restarted modem multiples times and nothing worked, so I took the ethernet cable out of the router and plugged it directly into the modem - and what do you know, it works now. So I'm assuming if I went straight from the computer to the modem with the ethernet on my new computer i'd have connectivity. This means no one else in the house can use the internet though, which makes me think somethings wrong with the router (which i've never had problems with).

Any suggestions?

for #1, is it a brand new hd? if so did u partition/format it, could be why you dont see it. Right click on my computer and select manage, then go to disk management to partition.

for #2, do u have any mac address restrictions configured on router?

Yeah its a brand new HD, I haven't done anything to it yet, nothing should be on it.

Don't know too much about routers, how would I go about finding out?

You need to go into disk management (start and type "disk management") and format it. It should show up there in black. Right click it and click "new simple volume". For whatever reason disk management doesn't show up when you search in the start menu, but "create and format hard disk partitions" does. This is where you want to go to get things started

Perfect, that fixed it right there! Now just gotta figure out my router/internet issue.

I'm on my new computer right now, wouldn't connect with the router, so I have the ethernet cable going straight from my modem to the computer, so I could connect to the internet for now.

Now that is an interesting issue I am going to differ to the rest of the crowd. I am not a networking guy, and it is far from my strong suit... The only thing I might say is try installing the win 7 network driver from your motherboard manufacturer's website, then trying to hook everything up again, and power cycle all of your modems/ routers.

If you can connect to the Internet when plugged straight into the modem, the NIC on your PC is working properly. I'd probably do a factory reset on the router and go from there.
