Check out my earlier post about the conservative Marquette Professor that is in front of the Supreme Court right now. I would like your take on both of these cases.... compare and contrast....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...i-will-never-be-fired/?utm_term=.dd44971ce9ee

I read most of the article you posted, I can't parse the facts, but it seems like the Marquette professor was suspended for repeatedly harassing or threatening other professors at the institution. I don't see any evidence that that was going on here.

PS. I think some serious Arab hate is going to come to Obama over Syria/Libya as is some serious Arab hate for Trump over Syria/Yemen. Americans have no appreciation for the amount of catastrophe they are spreading.

Agree, although I'd argue it goes much farther than Syria/Libya.

As far as this is concerned:

In another tweet, the professor wrote: “I’m happy the witch is dead. can’t wait for the rest of her family to fall to their demise the way 1.5 million iraqis have. byyyeeeeeee.”

It's not respectful and it's not nice, but I don't think the Bush family deserves respect or deference. Look at the revolting memorial thread on these boards where no one was even allowed to post criticism, these comments help balance out crap like that.

The professor taunted those attacking her, sharing a contact number that was that of Arizona State University’s suicide hotline, and said she was a tenured professor who makes $100,000 a year.

“I will never be fired,” she tweeted.

lol, this is just straight trolling. Anyone who's upset by it is the snowflakiest snowflake that ever fell from the sky.

As far as I am concerned Fresno State can fire, censure or give a blue ribbon to her as they see fit. Professor Jarrar posted as a Fresno State professor, cited her job many times, and used all kinds of #tags to flaunt her position and troll her audience. She has First Amendment protections, so the government cannot arrest her for what she said, but the university can sure as heck fire her if they feel she represented them poorly, or just don't want to suffer what they feel may be negative backlash from her potty mouth.

I'd let her go if it were my shop because the women has horrific judgement, tact and is, IMHO, too angry to be teaching anyone. You don't celebrate a former first lady's death while representing or even mentioning your employer. And posting the phone number of that suicide help line as hers was borderline criminal.

It sounds like a challenge to the University. I think they should take her up on the dare.

Yes, it's important not to forget that GWB said his mom drank and smoked while pregnant with him.

And her words in defense of her son after hurricane Katrina, [para] "'Those people' should feel lucky, the Superdome is much nicer than 'they're' used to."

Your quote is a little off in a way that is misleading in a bad way.

The actual quote:
https://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/07/us/nationalspecial/barbara-bush-calls-evacuees-better-off.html

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them"

In my opinion that was taken way out of context.

We all know she meant under the unavoidable circumstances ( the hurricane ) and the fact that they could not afford to put themselves up otherwise, they were lucky to have a place in the Astrodome.

Professsor snowflake has the right to free speech, the school has the right to discipline her lack of judgment and the resident apologists have the right to rationalize her stupidity.

Looks like quite a few bunker busters were dropped on some safe spaces with this piece...

Anyhow, yup... right to say it, right to get shamed and or disciplined. Same goes with any free speech. Pick and choose your battles...

Kind of like how the right takes out of context the "we had to pass it to know what's in it" misquote which i'm sure you were a part of?

You know, professors tend to be really smart people, but they still do dumb shit. This doesn't accomplish anything productive.

I happen to think GWB is a mass-murdering war criminal, and just plain ol criminal for funneling trillions to companies like Blackwater--but I'm not going after his mom the day she dies about it, that's fucked up.

Barbara has a few racial issues, but personally they seem like more "insulated white rich ignorance"--ie, "let them eat cake"--than outright racism. She seemed like the kind of person who can't imagine what it's like to not live in a compound of mansions.

Insulated white affluence is a disease that afflicts the well off liberals too. A lot of things they support, they wouldn't be doing that if they were to actually exist in different, more socially, racially, economically diverse environment.

I can go with that.

Addressed in post #67 since a few seem concerned about my reply to Hayabusa's comment
Sometimes free speech has consequences...especially if this free speech is considered to be highly offensive. She can't be jailed, but she can be fired...which may happen if enough donors force the issue.

It would be more honest if you said "You suspect that you know what the answer is".
Go ahead then. Take the bait. Do you think Trump should be fired? Or perhaps only liberal's should be fired for being inflammatory idiots?

For the record, I wouldn't have an issue if this professor is fired. It was a tasteless, public comment to make that reflects poorly on the whole university. It wasn't part of intellectual discourse. It was simply inflammatory. Unfortunately, we've reached the point where we hold college professors to a higher standard than the president of our nation.
