Go ahead then. Take the bait. Do you think Trump should be fired? Or perhaps only liberal's should be fired for being inflammatory idiots?

For the record, I wouldn't have an issue if this professor is fired. It was a tasteless, public comment to make that reflects poorly on the whole university. It wasn't part of intellectual discourse. It was simply inflammatory. Unfortunately, we've reached the point where we hold college professors to a higher standard than the president of our nation.

I've already told you that I'm not playing your silly game.

Seriously, was Barbara Bush a racist or was this just hate speech on the part of the professor? I don't remember that much about her.

In typical fashion, when something bad happens to conservatives or Repubs, liberals really take the high road.
All this outrage about something some obscure college professor said and yet nothing about what Trump crony Roger Stone said.
Right wing hypocrisy literally knows no bounds.

I don't know about racist. Definitely sexist. She told a college of young women that they could aspire to be a first lady. WTF?!

I read her speech at Wellesley College, if that was what you were referring to, and did not see anything about aspiring to be first lady. It was actually an inspiring speech. Was there another one?

Barbara Bush gave the commencement address at the all-women Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, on June 1, 1990.

The speech was ranked No. 47 on a list of the top speeches of the century in 1999. The list, compiled by researchers at the University of Wisconsin and Texas A&M University, was based on a survey of scholars who ranked speeches by social and political impact and rhetorical artistry.

Anyone else know anything she did that was racist.

Your quote is a little off in a way that is misleading in a bad way.

The actual quote:
https://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/07/us/nationalspecial/barbara-bush-calls-evacuees-better-off.html

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them"

In my opinion that was taken way out of context.

We all know she meant under the unavoidable circumstances ( the hurricane ) and the fact that they could not afford to put themselves up otherwise, they were lucky to have a place in the Astrodome.

I grew up in the New Orleans area and lived there most of my life. I have been through hurricane Betsy in 1965 through hurricane Andrew in 1992. Most people stayed put during hurricanes until Katrina.

New Orleans, like most large cities, had its share of low income residents. These folks did not have much of anything. Most of them could not leave NOLA because they didn't have a way to get out or a place to stay outside of the city like a family member or hotel.

When Katrina hit they had nothing left and no place to go. So temporarily staying in the Astrodome would have been a positive thing for those "underprivileged" people until they could figure out what they wanted to do and get assistance.

No, because this statement: “I will never be fired,” she tweeted.

Seems to be a challenge to the school to fire her.

It was a taunt to the right wing trolls that were howling in her mentions. You think the school should pander to them?

Low income residents' lives are not improved by a hurricane blowing through their homes and turning them into refugees you fucking weirdo.

It is curious, isn't it, how this obscure person's personal tweets became front page news. I bet a complete synopsis of how this thing went from Twitter to the New York Post would essentially be a blueprint for how the right wing rage factory works. I would love it if someone that was good at forensics took it on. I would pay money to see the results.

If you are a refugee due to your financial inability to flee the hurricane that forced you from your home, it's absolutely one hell of a positive to have the Astrodome to shelter in. But you can read into her comments whatever your heart desires. I'm not going to even begin to argue if she is a racist or classist, but that statement sure doesn't show it unless you dissect it with intent to find such.

Edit: I may be confused here regarding the comment and it's timing, and weather we are referring to sheltering in the Louisiana Superdome during the hurricane vs. relocating to the Houston Astrodome AFTER the hurricane. In fact, I'm sure I am. My bad.

You understand that this comment very specifically does not apply to this situation? 1) It is not a government arresting her and 2) it is not a nongovernment deciding not to tolerate her. Seems very much like a Pickering issue.
I don't think this would be a Pickering issue unless the university tried to fire her for making false statements that harmed the school. I think they would more likely fire her for something closer to conduct unbecoming.

Doesn't matter what account she was using, personal or official. You guys have completely missed the reason why she cannot be fired even if she speaks in official capacity. Please go through this thread if you can.
Jebus, "you're wrong, but I'm not going to tell you why" arguments are in now? Is this a game to you or do you want to debate?

She is absolute garbage and shouldnt be attacking Barbara Bush who was a classy lady.
Barbara Bush was part of a clan that willingfully caused the deaths of a million people. She raised one of her sons to be a mass-murderer. If Trump hadn't messed up the 2016 elections, she would have had another son that right now would be in the middle of starting another war that would cause the deaths of lots of innocent people.

In my book, Barbara Bush is the bitch.

No, it's not curious. All of the news agencies monitor twitter and the internet now. Anything that creates a buzz and is controversial is reported. The tweet was first picked up by the Fresno Bee a few hours after the twitter post. It was picked up and reported by WaPo, Newsweek, NYP, and other news outlets the next day.

Your theory fails.

We are discussing the comment BB made about the Houston Astrodome. According to the wiki link posted above:
When the flooding began on August 30, the Superdome began to fill slowly with water, though it remained confined to the field level. Later that day, Governor Blanco ordered New Orleans completely evacuated.[2] On August 31, it was announced that the Superdome evacuees would move to the Reliant Astrodome in Houston, Texas. With no power and no water, sanitary conditions within the Superdome had rapidly deteriorated.[4]
