The US is only of the only countries that refrigerates eggs. If I'm not mistaken, it's even illegal in Europe to refrigerate them.

Yeah this tripped me out when I lived in Italy. Eggs were just on the shelf.

If you have second thoughts just throw it away. I didn't do that last week with some meat and I ended up getting food poisoning :\

Ketchup doesn't need refrigeration? I mean, I know it doesn't before it's open, but doesn't it say to refrigerate after opening on the label?

Not really. The acid in the vinegar inhibits bacterial and mould growth. It's fine if left for a few days.

Oh, right. I wasn't trying to make any claims about any other than ours. I'm sure that ours would have fared pretty poorly had it had the same setup.

Haha. All I can tell you is they left the door open, it was in a hot garage, we came home and something smelled burnt, and the fridge was no longer functional.

Bacteria grows fine in those things. Bacteria that is harmful to us dies in it though. It's funny how people are so worried about bacteria, yet so much is actually used for our benefit. People might be shocked if they found out where most of our source of citric acid (preservative in juice, among other things) comes from.

Personally I would toss everything that was at 50° or higher for more than a 2 hours. I go by what the FDA says on their website.

Some people may handle it find, my digestive system would not.

We have a thermometer in the refrigerator so we can track the temp. I tend to keep it cooler than many people. When our power went out recently the temp got to about 49° and we tossed quite a bit of the food if it were something we'd consider perishable at warmer temps.
