Fridge recommendation - preferably no external ice maker/water faucet

Hello friends,

I am in the market for a new fridge -about 25cu ft.

The enclave for the fridge is 38w * 32D * 72h.

I am wondering if there is any good brand/quality fridge that does not have an external ice maker and water filter?

My spouse and I do not need that functionality. We basically use the fridge for our perishable items, mostly vegetables and fruits, and some canned jars.

She likes the pull out drawers in the fridge, so I guess maybe a French door?

We don't really need the side by side functionality though.

Any suggestions on a brand/model we can look for? We are ok with online or in person.

I really look forward to your help.

Thanks,
desidude

Sounds like you are on the losing end of the disagreement with the wife. You want a $500 fridge, and she wants a $1500 fridge.

I haven't researched this, so I could be very wrong. I don't believe you can find a fridge that size without the ice maker. Particularly a fancy french door model. The technology has been around for decades. The market for more expensive fridge's expect it.

Go visit an appliance dealer and see if you can special order one. If you find one, don't expect to find it on-sale. You might end up paying more for less features.

We had similar desires. Ended up with a Whirlpool. http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/WRF540CWBM.html No external anything. Inside just a small flush water dispenser on the side. It does have an internal ice maker but you can't avoid that. I would go to a real appliance store and not just Best Buy or Lowe's type store. The prices will be the same or they will price match, and the selection is better.

Just bought a Frigidaire about a decade ago as basic fridge, has held up fine here.

Spending a ton of money for ice makers, etc has never been my thing. But it's only the two of us, so do not need a large one really.

She did win out on an Maytag digital commercial branded washer about a year ago, but was on sale cheap, still hoping that doesn't crap out too fast.

Digital in conjunction with appliances has never been a good idea in my mind, unless it's a microwave.

yes, I had to run water to it. That was pretty trivial in light of the total kitchen remodel

I always buy Kenmore brand appliances because they're manufactured by GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, Maytag, Panasonic, Roper, etc... Basically, if a model is well-constructed and proven, Sears will place an order with their branding and a few style adjustments. What YOU get as the consumer is a product that has 2 levels of support. You get the Sears repair company standing behind the product, as well as, the manufacturer. If you want to save money, you can check the Sears Outlet network online...but you're almost better going in and negotiating a lower price with the local manager if they can do it. I bought 2 refrigerators this way and probably saved $1500 between the two of them off retail.

If you are going to buy and can wait, Tax refund sales and Memorial Day sales may save on certain models depending on where you shop. Look for those in the next 1-2 months...prices fluctuate a lot on major appliances.
