I'll probably be buying a new mobo, and if it doesn't fix the problem, i'll return it, that simple...anyone have any suggestions for a brand/model?

One thing to try is removing the CPU and then lifting and lowering the locking lever a few times. Sometimes when CPUs are forcefully removed from the sockets, the internals of the socket can get misaligned. If you move it a few times, sometimes you can get it realigned.

Beeps almost always indicate RAM or video errors. If CPU or motherboard is dead, no beeps.

When you had the board running on a phone book, did you plug a PC speaker to the headers?

Ok, so basically the cpu and HS/fan were pulled out of the socket without using the release lever? If this was the case you probably destroyed the socket and thus need a new mobo. If not, the problem is still likely the board, (unless you were savagely overclocking). I would say there are roughly 10 bad mobos for every bad cpu.

Ok, I bought a new mobo last night because I knew that there was very little possiblilty of it being anything else. I bought a MSI K8T Neo, mostly because it was the only 754 board that they had in stock. After installing that, I finnaly got it to post, however, I'm now stuck in an endless cycle of menus. When I first boot up, I get this:

I can enter some of the various menus, such as bios, boot menu and others by pressing del, F10, F11, F12 from this screen. However, if nothing is pressed, it takes me to a screen that says Windows didn't start properly and asks my how I want to start windows(safe mode, regular). No matter which option is selected, it flashes the windows load screen for about half a second and the computer restarts to the first menu.

I don't have a clue what the matter is...anyone have any ideas? Could it be hardware? Thanks for your help, again...

If the new msi board has a different chipset (ex.- via instead of nforce3) then you need to reinstall windows. Try the repair option, or format the drive first.

Ok, I'm trying to repair Windows, but when I push R for repair, it tells me that it can't find a hard disk drive on my computer, which makes no sense because my hard drive is recognized when I start up...I can't reformat, I have a paper on the computer that is due monday and other important stuff that hasn't been backed up... I tried unplugging the SATA cable and stuff, but the Windows setup stilld doesn't recognize it.

EDIT: When pressing enter, as if to install a new copy of windows, the same thing happens, the hard drive is not recgozined

As o1die said the problem is the chipset drivers for your old mobo that are installed on your drive are not working with your new mobo. A reformat and reinstall of windows is the answer.

If you must save the data thats on your hard drive, get a second drive and set up the system with a fresh windows install on this drive, then add your current drive as a second drive.

Other options if you can't afford another drive.

1. If one of the Intel boxes you have access to supports SATA, put your drive into that system as a second drive, then backup the data you need to save onto Disc or the primary drive of the Intel box. Then reformat the drive and put it back in your AMD box and do a fresh install

2. Borrow a drive from one of the Intel boxes. This would be more time consuming
a)Back up the data you want to keep on the Intel box
b)Reformat the hard drive, then swap it to the AMD box and do a fresh install
c)Add you current drive as a second drive, then retreive the data that you want and back it up to disc
d)Reformat both drives, then return the borrowed hard drive to the Intel box
e)Instal windows on both machines

The problem is now that I can't get the computer to recognize my hard drive at all, i go into the boot disk and type in C:\ and it says that there is no C drive...there is the problem...

Are you using a SATA drive?

You have to reinstall Windows. When you boot into the Windows CD, press "F6 to install a third party RAID driver".

Get the NVRAID disk from any of the nforce3 mobo makers and put this disk in. Make sure you select BOTH options it brings up.
