I had the local distributor check on my 1st gpu (MSI R9 290X Lightning).....it was confimed faulty as it was running 85 deg c easily when running a game and showed artifacts. It hanged once it reached 87 deg c. A normal Lightning gpu should be running at around 71-73 deg c under load from what I read. I had to downclock to 1010mhz core speed instead of the stock 1080mhz core speed in order to play any game. My casing has lots (I mean lots!) of in and out fans with proper airflow dynamics in mind.
The 2nd GPU (already run-in and checked at distributor location) ran very nicely at home at around 67 deg c for all of 15 mins before it hanged and green bars spread all over the screen. Thereafter the green bars decided to become permanent residents on the GPU....The distributor tech guy also confirmed that 2nd GPU faulty....what sort of chances of that happening?
Am concerned about HDMI back current (if there's such a thing) or grounding issues from my 2 projectors (Panasonic AE4000) and dirty power to my PC. Invested on 2 HDMI->RJ45 convertors to isolate HDMI as a potential cause and am still trying to isolate other factors including a surge arrestor/power filter etc....
Btw the distributor has replaced my power supply, motherboard and gpu and tested everything ok at their location.....But for the coward in me I haven't dared plug the pc back on to the original setup since (although I have tested it ok with another single monitor screen and another 2 micro projectors)....hoping to see how others solved their issues 1st.
