Friend got appendicitis

He threw up around 4PM yesterday, went to rehearsals anyway. Made a mad dash for a bathroom after that...starting throwing up uncontrollably from immense pain and (according to his girlfriend) "it was like Dear John all over again. Because he cried. Like a bitch."

Hes all good playing Resident Evil 5 now. His parents drove up 7 hours to see him. Cooked everyone dinner (that unfortunately he can't eat).

One night I woke up shivering cold and having severe "gas pains". My teeth were chattering from the bone chilling cold and it was 80+ degrees in the middle of summer.

My wife took me up to the ER at about 3am. I'm insisting to the nurses the whole time that I've just got gas and food poisoning from the fish my wife cooked the night before. They all had a good laugh about that. 3 hours later I was laid open on the table and they were removing my exploded appendix.

Nothing to fuck around with.

That's not true. It is one of those misconceptions that teachers and parents keep alive.

The appendix is actually a concentrated area of lymph nodules that kinda acts like a gate keeper between the small intestine and large intestine.

Just because you can live without it doesn't mean that they don't play an important role.

I had mine out when I was about 10 years old. I had severe pain in the lower right so they did a blood test and my counts were messed up. I think it was the white cell count. Anyways, waited a day and same result and I was on the table by that evening.

lol the ER was sure to cover that, three people including him had similar symptoms. All were told they might have appendicitis, but he was the only one who really had it. Unfortunately, the woman with him had a UTI that spread to her kidneys, which sounds like it can really fuck up your day. Not sure what happened to the other man.

All in all, it could have been much worse. Glad hes OK.

I had mine taken out when I was 6, I still have the scar. I don't remember much but just a lot of horrible stomach pain. I missed school for like a month.
