Friend is going to China / Hong Kong. Any suggestions what to bring back/buy?

Friend is going to china / hong kong.

already asked to buy some good kit kats (the good shit from Nestle that's not allowed in the US), foreign candy like Mentos (again in non US flavors) and some flavored cigarettes that would make great gifts (melon, orange etc etc).

i heard clothes and gadget prices are the same in the US and sometimes US is actually cheaper than in China.

anyone else have any other suggestions to buy?

Hard to say. Like you said, when it comes to electronics it's more expensive here. The watch market seems to be about the same as the US too when I was looking for an Omega a year or two back. I think food is really the only thing that comes to mind. Maybe a bag of White Rabbit candy, some good tea, snacks.

And Kit Kats are different here? I haven't noticed but I would hope so since they charge a $1-2 USD for candy bars here.

Ok, the reason I ask then is that his bargaining position is much improved over a foreigner. Well one typical thing is jade. The only problem is that you need to know about jade and how to judge the quality if you want to spend a reasonable amount of money on it. Otherwise, you can get the plastic infused neon green jade pieces from the street markets that they push on the gweilous. You can get a mass produced small piece for $5 USD I think depending on how well your friend can bargain. Hong Kong has a couple of street markets that cater mostly to tourists but they all sell pretty much the same stuff (literally, I've seen some of the same exact stuff in markets in Singapore) and it's pretty much junk.

If there's a fabric/tailor market in Hong Kong like there is in Shanghai, he totally needs to take advantage of that. Full length, tailored, cashmere/silk coats for <$100 = awesome.

One can get some super nice pearls for a fuck-ton cheaper as well.

I am not sure what you mean by that. i was born and raised in HK. I went back there between june-nov last year. when I came back, I didn't buy anything from HK.

HK got some great foods and that's about it. anything else, I can usually by it here.

i got a suit and some shirts in shanghai. the problem is you have to be there, that's why it is tailor's made. HK has nothing like that...maybe across the river in SZ.

What? I went to HK last summer and got a tailor-made suit for 1000HKD. About $128 USD. The guy's shop was on the fourth floor of some building on Queen's Road.
