Friend is planning to goto Japan for a few months. How to keep in phone contact without a huge bill.

He is interested in Google Voice. And is planning to leave the US for a few months. Could a Google # be forwarded to an out of state #?

Or just use Google Voice with Gizmo which would be PC only?

How can Gizmo help? Can Gizmo forward to a out of state # for free? I know http://my.gizmo5.com has some forwarding options.

I know PC to PC calling Skype would kick ass. But he looking at phone options that won't break his wallet.

Yes it would work. That's how I use it since I am in the Philippines. With Google Voice, you get free calling throughout US and Canada. With Gizmo, you can have Google Voice forward the call to Gizmo.

I have been in Belgium all summer and what I did was forward Google Voice to Gizmo, then forward Gizmo to my Belgian office number (3c/min). The rate isn't terrible and the outgoing call to US/Canada is free. I love Google.
