A girl's opinion -

Hitting her back wasn't the best option, but it's a reasonable option. Taking the high road is not always possible in a heated situation.

Anybody who does violence to anyone else should expect the same in return. Mothers should teach this to their daughters.

If a girl hits you, you have ever right to defend yourself. What I'd do is do a grappling manuveur so that she can't hit me and disable her till she calms down.

Your friend is going to need a GOOD lawyer. It's going to cost thousands.

Somebody attacking with a spoon doesn?t sound all that threatening to me.

Just looking at pictures of her broken nose and face at the trial is probably going to be enough to convinct him.

Never make a statesment to the police.

Never beat up your girlfriend.

Every time we have one of these guys hitting women for whatever reason threads, some guys bring up "women want equal rights so that means we should be able to hit them just like we would a man". For the nth time, equality for women is about equal rights in the workplace, not about women wanting to act like men, be physically equal to men, or to be unfeminine in any way. The goal of equality for women has nothing to do with protecting the rights of loud, obnoxious, violent females to act like idiots. It's ridiculous to site "equal rights for women" in one of these threads because it has nothing to do with equal rights in the workplace.

I don't care who attacks you with what, but when it is hard enough to draw blood then game over. Especially right above the eye, could have been a lot worse.

If she had a knife in her hand, yeah, I'd take away the knife with force. But punching? I just couldn't hit a girl. It's a little sexist, I agree, but most girls just aren't as strong andit's not a fair fight. Now, if someone tought like Serena Williams was threatening me I'd go for the balls!

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't get slapped around by NOBODY. And the knife?
Automatic call for knock out.

I know plenty of girls who could knock me out if they tried hard enough. There are guys weaker than girls. Strength shouldn't be a consideration here.

meh, some girls slap. Some girls even bite. As long as i'm not bleeding I explain how I think it's an immature way to argue a point but it doesn't bug me. As chris rock said, hold and shaking the sh1t out of a girl who's getting violent isn't a terrible thing, but hitting? I once decked my dad for hitting my mom, you just don't hit girls! Unless they're bigger than you, of course...

I think a lot of police do a good job. But it's sad to know that in a situation like this the personal feelings of police and law makers(?) can often screw things up.

Understandable, and thanks for hitting your dad. Fortunately, my dad only got angry enough to throw my sister across a hallway into a TV. Cool, but not right.

He never hit my mom though. And I was too little to do anything to him. I would have been put though a wall. Again, Cool, but not right.

Edit:
Don't get me wrong. He NEVER hit anyone. And he hasn't touched my sister since he threw her a good 10ft. I still love him, and he's actually been a really great dad.

Sometimes people just provoke violence.

But he had every right to defend himself and since she's confirmed the events, she's screwed. Chances are pretty good that hitting her in the face was not his only recourse, probably not the best recourse either, but she probably had it coming.

Its easy to say "wrestle her to the ground" when posting on a message board. Not so easy when she's coming at your like a rabid spider monkey while blood is gushing out of your forehead.

Yeah, he'd hit me and my sister all the time, it's just when he crossed the line and smacked my mom. It was on the wrist and not the trashing we were put through but, still, it drove me crazy so I slugged him and then shoved him to the ground.

You don't hit girls. You don't hit people weaker than you. It's the way of a coward, in my opinion. Even if it's justified, there are better methods to deal with problems. If my gf was attacking me with a spoon? (After cracking up that I feel threatened by a spoon), I'd walk out of the apartment, tell her to chill the fvck out then go out and hit on girls at a local bar.

She attacked first, with a weapon, with intent to hurt and harm.
He defended himself.

disagree. Since it's not some random person on the street, i'm sure there was build up to the "attack." It wasn't random and, come on, he probably did something to warrant a spoon to his face. But, that aside, there was probably time for him to walk out and tell her to cool off.

It just doesn't add up - if I was walking down the street and some crazy lady came at me with a knife, well, I'd kick the sh1t out of her because it was random and my instinct is to preserve my own life. but for a girlfriend to attack you - there's more to the story than we're hearing...

I had a friend tell me "equal rights mean equal punch in the face." She would seriously be pissed at some of the responses on here about women and equal rights and stuff.

A domestic violence conviction means you can't own guns for the rest of your life. Since I love my guns, I would never become physical with a woman. As long as I'm able to run faster than my women, I should be ok.

I know saying that I wouldn't hit a girl sound sexist, but I wouldn't hit a midget either. unless he was skilled at tae kwon do.. Actually, I'd run if that's the case - my non-midget legs giving me the edge. It's all about the (more) powerful attacking the weaker, it just doesn't seem right.

I meant more on a legal standpoint. She was being the aggressor, used a weapon, started the fight, and apparently from what she said prompted the response in order to get the guy in trouble. If it were two guys, the guy who acted like the girl did would be the one in the most trouble legally. Does that mean the girl is the one who should get the most punishment.

Sorry for the mix-up I could see where you got your response from how I worded the question.
