What your friend did was perfectly justified in the situation, had it been me I probably would have done the same thing. That said it may not be so simple, sure he can say it was self defense but if she lies he could be screwed especially if he is a big guy and/or she is relatively small especially if her broken nose looks pretty bad.

I have no idea what she looks like. He is not a small guy, but he's not like "big strong guy" either, he's just wicked fat and fairly short. I'd have to assume she's not a twig if she was dating him.

Numerous episodes of Cops have shown that women are just as in much trouble as men are when it comes to physical violence.

The guy is going to be known as a woman beater though, regardless of the circumstances. It sucks, but its true. Nothing is going to change that.

I fully support your friend but I'm skeptical of how things will work out for him. I mean if there's a heated situation where somebody is going to break a bone or two, I'd rather it be them (male or female, 16-year-old or 60-year-old) than me - particularly if I already have blood dripping down my brow and into my eyes. But I guess since no one can accurately predict the way the law will look at it, it is best to learn to defend yourself without causing any real damage (no blood or broken bones).

Mandible claw/chicken wing/the sleeper/sharpshooter FTW! Or maybe a boot to the chest or abs.

It seem preety clear the girl should go to jail. Your friends that are downing him should shut their mouths and get a life.

She hit him twice, She used a weapon to assault him once. He hit in defense and did not pursue her with more strikes. I say she needs some lockup time.

I support equal rights, but a punch in the face, breaking her nose, won't look too good in court.

I've said it before, and i will say it again, the saying is "you don't hit a LADY" doesn't mention anything about being a girl...... if she's going to swing at me, i'm going to swing back, expecially after busting my forhead open. This mentality that girls have is disgusting....

you think you wont go to jail for wrestling a girl to the ground vs punching her?

i'd say just leave, call the cops and press charges, send the crazy bitch to jail.

If women want equal rights, then shouldnt they be equal? Where did society get off thinking they should have preferential treatment?

If ANYONE attacks you first, you definitely have rights to self defense.

I have never heard of law saying that you cannot defend yourself based on the gender of the attacker.

what i want to know is how he needed stitches from a spoon??

If things went down the way you described then i don't see anything wrong with what he did...I will not hit a female unless she steps into a man's shoes first.

I'd say there were probably other methods of physical retaliation that could've been used, but people don't always think rationally when being attacked like that.

He was within his rights, I'd say.

Bored as hell and I wanna get ill
So I go to a place where my homeboyz chill
The fellas out there try to make that dollar
I pulled up in the 6-fo' impala
greeted with a 40 and I start drinkin'
And from the 8-ball my breath start stinkin'
I gotta get my girl to rock that body
Before I left I hit the bacardi
Pulled to the house get her out of the pad
And the bitch said something to make me mad
She said somethin' that I couldn't believe
So I grabbed the stupid bitch by her nappy ass weave
She started talkin' sh*t, would'nt you know?
I reached back like a pimp and slapped the hoe'
And her father stood up and he started to shout
So I threw a right-cross and knocked his old ass out

So women these days want to act like men and be treated like men with equal rights, but when you do, they cry for special priviledges and exceptions for being woman?

While striking a woman is questionable, it's not out of the question in self defense from out of control violence. However consider that a typical man can easily overpower and restrain a woman and render her harmless without directly striking, it's a tough call, and could be considered excessive by some.

When I am engaged I contrast my capabilities with the other person's, and make a real time judgment call in the disparity of force and what force is least excessive to end the conflict. I know that a woman can put on a violent show, but I know a typical woman is no threat to someone of my presence, thus I likely wouldn't directly strike unless the circumstances were severe.

There's a mantra I've heard on a number of occasions that's particularly befitting of this thread:

"Don't hit a man unless you're prepared to fight like a man."

'Nuff said.
