I don't know what they'd do for money or if he even speaks english... and no, they don't even know my family at all... maybe you've misread my OP?

What will she do when he wants to go out dating?

Is that really a rule?

While I don't agree with marrying family members, I don't think the government has say on it

No, marriage between cousins is actually outlawed in many US states.

Marriage between siblings is outlawed in ALL states, as far as I am aware.
Yeah, it's to prevent atrocities against the gene pool.

Mandatory Simpsons reference:
Jebediah: People, our search is over! On this site we shall build a new town where we can worship freely, govern justly, and grow vast fields of hemp for making rope and blankets.

Shelbyville: Yes, and marry our cousins.

Jebediah: I was ? what are you talking about, Shelbyville!? Why would we want to marry our cousins?

Shelbyville: Because they're so attractive. I, I thought that was the whole point of this journey.

Jebediah: Absolutely not!

Shelbyville: I tell you, I won't live in a town that robs men of the right to marry their cousins.

Lol, the lemon tree episode. I love the closing scene, where the kids of Shelbyville sit down to a lovely glass of turnip juice.

I believe it's legal to marry second cousins but it could be different in each state.

Now that depends on if you're a bleeding-heart liberal or a heartless neocon, now doesn't it?

The decision may be made without your help also.

The paperwork rules have changed to supress the mail-order bride syndrom.

Also, the spouse to be will be interviewed by US embassy staffers to evaluate the relationship.
They are getting pretty trained to spot fraud citizenship attempts. Also, they will err on the side of No-Go if things to not seem valid.

Thats good news then... hopefully they didn't think this fully through with all possible responses(where first met, how they became involved, etc)... so when she goes through that interview process they'd deny it.

She will have to fill out the paperwork and provide documentaiton as to the relationship.

Good site to understand the process.

Places that advertise to do your paperwork for you can only smooth over some bumps for a high $$ fee.
Do not think that they can perform a miracle and pull strings.

If that paperworks gets cleared, then the local embasy in China would do the interview on the intended spouse.

I've already told her I think its a travesty to marriage and involves lots of risk including deportation(for the guy), and possible jail time for her... plus its wasting a few years of her youth being married... her family really wants that part of her extended family to come over to America(they're quite poor in China, so her mom sends money all the time... with the cousin here, he could make money to send back to China)... I know she's upset at me for not supporting her and saying these harsh things. I tell her there are many other ways(although much much slower) to get US Citizenship, but she signed off ignoring me.

not ur business. stay out of it.

Ignoring the wierdness of it all (besides, its not like they would be having sex with each other...right?!?) how long would they have to remain married in order for it to work out as they wish?

a couple of years i think

A lot more. It'll take over 2 years just to get the stupid green card. And then something like 5 more years to be "eligible" for US citizenship.

K visas are a waste of time. Come with tourist visa and got married after 30 days. End of waiting. Now if he can't get a tourist visa, thats a different story.

As long as they live in Arkansas, I don't see any problem with it; they should fit right in.

I wouldn't, but with a couple million illegals coming through every year don't expect USCIS (INS) to give a sh*t.

I have a cousin in vietnam who writes alot asking me to find someone for her. I am going back there in june to personally slap her upside the head. for me I find marrying some guy in the US for citizenship is no better than slavery. she will be at that guy's mercy. then the whole sleeping with the guy. oops went off course.

anyhow I'm sure you friend can find some friends of her who is willing to help out. some money might help.

I believe dowry are illegal in the US. but you can easily get around the law by claiming customs. asians do it all the time. personally i find buying engagement/wedding rings as a form a dowry but women don't seem to make a big uproar about that. Yes I know its voluntary you could do what homer did and gave marge an onion ring. but I think you know what I mean.

On a side note.

what are 2nd and 3rd cousins?

I know atleast I think I know that 1st cousins are children of your aunt or uncle thats related to your mom/dad.
