Friend wants "Top of the line" gaming system

Having said that, I would definetly recommend he puts his money into things that hold their value a little longer, like the screen, a nice sound system (I got my klipsch 5.1s Ultras for like $220 almsot 3 years ago, and they're still going for something close to that (last I checked anyway.)

I also recommend a nice keyboard/mouse setup and desk/chair. Granted, I don't play very many games (though Starcraft 2 has me excited), so I probably don't put as much value on top-end video cards as a gamer, but I think it's smart to put your money into things you can take advantage of when you're playing or surfing the web (lots of ram, quad core, video card don't do that much for this).

Even if you do spend the money on those things, it probably leaves you with well over $2000 that you could buy a cheap quad core (in July), plenty of ram, a big HD, and possibly SLI 8800s.

Is that your setup? When I saw that, I said omfg ten times. I was drooling, can you tell me your setup?

Sorry, I was away for the holiday weekend.

Yeah, it's my setup. It's a 3007FPW in the middle and to 2007FPs on the side (4:3, not widescreen as others have guessed). Total resolution is 4960x1600. I've also got the Klipsch Ultra 5.1s I mentioned earlier and a couple pair of sennheiser headphones for the audio. I'm a big fan of my MS wireless keyboard/mouse combo too.

The rest of my system isn't very interesting since it hasn't really been upgraded in a couple of years, though it was when I bought it. (I do web developement, not much gaming). I'm running an X2 3800+ with 2GB Ram, a 74GB Raptor, 2x250GB HDs, a DFI NF4 Ultra mobo modded to sli, a 7900GTO and a 6600GT, Samsung 18x SATA DVD-RW, 7555841-in-1 media card reader (jk, I just love the high numbers they market for those these days.) All in an Antec Sonata 2.

This is the longest I've ever gone without a major system upgrade (though $3000 in monitors and video card upgrades should probably be considered a major upgrade.) After the July price drops, I'm going to pick up a quad core setup wtih 4GB ram and possibly 2x8800 GTS 320MB or something. Depends if they'll fit in my case.

After I pick all of that up my system should be good to go for a couple more years I hope.
