Just wanted to say my friend just purchased a waterblock and some kingston4000 and he's at 4.2 stable right now on water. Is this a pretty high 2.4C OC?? We work at a BestBuy and got the Intel purchase plan which was a 3.0HT, Intel 875Mobo, XP Pro full for $275 canadian and he sold his in favour of the 2.4. Does anyone think the 3.0 would go even further than 4.2??

What vcore is he using? I also doubt the 3.0 would be much better, that's a great overclock.

Is it a watercooling setup with a peltier, or just a plain watercooling kit? Cause if it's the former, I give him props and want to hear more about the setup, if it's the latter, the claim seems a little unrealistic to say the least, since I haven't heard of anyone breaking the 4GHz barrier on an "above room temp." cooling solution.

Sounds almost unbeliable to me (note the almost) if it is true - some benchmark scores so we can compare and pictures of various programs that show the speed would be nice - then I'd really like to hear more detail.s

And to answer your questions, yes, it's a stellar 2.4C oc, never heard of any above 3.6 with above room temp. The norm is 3.1-3.4
The 3.0 doesn't do that much better, 3.2-3.6 is what I'd exepct of it. The manufacturing process is nearing it's limits, the way the cpu's are made simply doesn't allow for much higher speeds.

that's an amazing OC! the highest i have heard of with the 2.4C is right around 3.9GHz, and that was with phase change cooling. even if there was a chance in hell that the 3.0C could do better (which there probably isn't), i would stick with this chip b/c you'll be lucky if you can get this same OC with another chip.

He got a Koolance waterblock kit and his vcore is running at a warm 1.8. He had this chip up to 3.6 100% stable on air before.

Maybe it's a magical chip

I presumed as much, at that vcore it'll be a victim of SNDS in short oder, best to live with whatever it'll do on less than 1.7v actual.

yeah...

1.8 is a bit high especially for water....

even guys that run phase change (prometeia and vapochill) run prolly around 1.75 volts and they are getting negative temps..

with water cooling, you're not going to get negative temps....

ask him what fsb he's using to reach 4.2 on his 2.4C and what ratio he's using and what ram as well...

just SOUNDS unrealistic.. let alone BEING unrealistic. I remember them doing a test and dropping the pc in liquid nitro and hitting 4 ghz.... just think about that. And hes hitting higher on water? cant be possible. The chip has gotta burn out too quickly, voltage has gotta be high. That my opinion... now we'll see if its crap or not, which looks to be
