From ISDN to ADSL

In summer i got ISDN becouse ADSL was not available in my area. Now it is.
Now I can either abandon ISDN and get ADSL over an analog line, or get ADSL over ISDN and pay 3 pounds ($5) more per month. The main advantage of keeping ISDN is the 2 additional phone numbers it offers me.
In some old articles (2000) some people argued that ADSL over ISDN is problematic, while others said it was not. What is it?
If i go with the analog solution the telecom will provide me with an Alcatel Speed Touch Home ADSL modem, while if i go with ADSL over ISDN a Cisco 677i.
I was trying to find some reviews for the Cisco 677i but i couldn't.

Which solution should i choose?

You can't get ADSL over an ISDN line as far as I know (after working for an ISP for nearly 3 years and dealing with a lot of DSL stuff directly with the DSL provider; maybe in the UK they do something different), but you can get IDSL, which is the slowest DSL possible, but is made for very long distances which other types can't do.

If you got the DSL over ISDN option, would you still be having to pay for the ISDN service separately? Would just getting a couple of extra analog phone lines be cheaper? What sort of speeds are you going to be getting with each type of DSL? Have you checked whether you can get SDSL service? It's more expensive usually but gives you the same speeds in both directions.

Probably in the US you don't use ADSL over ISDN since ISDN was never popular there. I know in Germany ADSL over ISDN is quite popular. (and the Cisco 677i is one of the modems designed for this).
In my country (not UK) I have the option to choose which one I prefer.

I will not have to pay additionally for the ISDN service, but the ADSL over ISDN is about $5 more expensive per month. One extra analog line is about $8 per month, so it wouldn't be cheaper. I am getting the cheapest service which is 640 down and 128 up.

I read this article: http://www.vnunet.com/News/1107146 which was written in 2000. So I would like to know if I will have any problems if i go the ADSL over ISDN way. If not, then I would prefer to keep the ISDN.

i thought BT in UK had to have a go converting the ISDN to PSTN for ASDL, which doesnt always work, and is hard enough for BT to charge an extra £100 for the conversion (but refund if they fail).

load of articles if you put ISDN (use caps) in the search at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp.

You say "In my country (not UK)" but I presume your choice is regairding the UK since you say pounds in the Q

This is Nestle. I am talking from a friends PC.

I was talking about Cyprus pounds. Here you can choose between "normal" ADSL and ADSL over ISDN. The only difference is that the second choice is 3 pounds per month more expensive and the telecom gives you a different modem depending on your choice. (Alcatel Speed Touch Home in the first case and Cisco 677i in the second). There are no special conversions or anything like that, and according to the telecom speed, ping etc are exactly the same no matter which service you choose.

The alcatel modem is quite popular, but i didn't manage to find enough info about the cisco one.
Is there anybody in here that uses ADSL over ISDN, or any review site for the cisco modem?

Any hardware issues aside, I would base my decision on how likely I am to use those additional phone numbers. For me, I hardly even use my home phone these days because I have a cell phone that takes care of just about all my calling needs. It wouldn't be worth the extra cash. I'd take plain vanilla ADSL in this case.

I am also using my cell phone a lot, but calling from a fixed phone is cheaper here so I am using fixed phones also.
I might need the extra lines since I have a home office. So if i could keep the ISDN without any problems i would.
